Being part of a team today means that you are connected to your team mates to perform a task. When you talk to each other, it is one way of sharing information and collaborations thus making it possible to get the job done. But that’s about to change if robots enter the workplace. Locus Robotics created LocusBots to help make jobs at warehouses easier. LocusBots are autonomous warehouse robots that have the capability of autonomously moving through a space and transport items from where they were picked off.  From shelves to other different places in a particular area, items can be placed anywhere then are packaged into boxes before being shipped out. They’ve already tried it before and at that time, the robot works individually. After the makers gave the bots a new system, they are now updated and now work as a team.

Locus President, Mike Johnson said that the new update made the LocusBots function like real-time indoor Waze robots. He said that the technique LocusBots is using is to share data with one another and make them collectively smarter. The CEO said that they are facing challenges with regards to the areas where the robots are working. They’re like unstructured environments that have a lot of people in it and plenty of equipment that are constantly changing.

The main goal of using LocusBots is to make things easier for operators. Company owners using the bots said that this new technology helped increase productivity in the work place and made the job fun since they can interact with each other. Usually, robots just follow instructions but these robots are different since they talk to each other and can also share information about the environment they’re placed in.  The LocusBots were presented at the industry trade show called “ProMat” in Chicago. During the show, six LocusBots were seen navigating the floor and avoid bumping into one another. The audience was amazed because of the demonstration of real-time route planning and crowdsourced information.

Mike Johnson said that if they were impressed upon seeing just six robots do their thing, people will even be more impressed if 50-100 robot were seen doing it. Johnson said that it is a smart decision to use robots in the work place since they make doing tasks easier. The advanced technology used in these robots make it easy to upgrade them. The system upgrade makes them function better. This idea of robots working together in one place may be new to use now but in the near future, there is a possibility looming that they will soon take over some human jobs. In our world today, we are still in the early stage of adapting this type of technology but soon having bots in various companies will somehow become a normal thing.
