As the release date of Samsung Galaxy S8 is fast approaching, leaks are also coming in fast. The Galaxy S8 launch will happen in New York and London simultaneously and its release date in stores is rumored to be April 21, and pre-orders are currently tipped to open on either April 7 or April 10.
We would be expecting two different models: Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+. It was reported that the next major change that Samsung S8 has is that the phones front screen would much be occupied by display. The screen looks set to be branded as an “Infinity Display”; a term which was first reported by the Guardian, and eventually revealed by Samsung through a trademark filing.
The most prominent modification is that we are expecting a knock in screen sizes. Seemingly, the two new Galaxy handsets will feature larger 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays, up from 5.1-inches and 5.7-inches on the old phones. But significantly, the new ‘Infinity Display’ aesthetic means we’re expecting that the rough body dimensions of the phones will stay the same as before. An advanced resolution panel is also tipped – specifically, 2,960 x 1,440 pixels compared to 2,560 x 1,440, creating an 18:9(-ish) aspect ratio.
The Galaxy S8 will come running on Google’s latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. The Galaxy S7 has already received the update, so there’s no reason why the Galaxy S8 shouldn’t launch with the new software right off the bat. Of course, expect the usual Samsung TouchWiz overlay, with some custom-built features – including a new AI assistant called ‘Bixby’.

In general, Apple’s biggest competitor is Samsung, so if you’re thinking about getting the iPhone 7, hang around and see what Samsung has up its sleeve. I would generally advise sticking with the platform you know, but the Galaxy S8 could be a real iPhone killer if all goes to plan. Samsung is one of the last manufacturers to show its hand for the first half of 2017, so we know by this time many of the phone’s rivals. In the meantime the Galaxy S8 looks likely to be one of the best phones of the year, it is worth hanging around to see what Samsung Galaxy S8 could bring us before buying a new phone.
