When talking about boosting the performance of Verizon Wireless 4G/LTE service, we mentioned the Verizon JetPack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4510L as a good supplement to the Sleek 4G signal booster . Here, at CES 2012, Verizon Wireless and ZTE have now announced the Verizon Jetpack EuFi890 model. Developed by ZTE, the Jetpack is a 4G /LTE Mobile Hotspot allowing 4G/ LTE – customers to get download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G/LTE Mobile Broadband coverage areas. The global ready device will work in 205 different countries, and 125 more with 3G too.

Other key features:

Support for up to 10 Wi-Fi-enabled devices

OLED display with interactive keypad

Backward-compatible with the Verizon Wireless 3G network

Data usage alerts via text message displayed on the Jetpack

Wireless Connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n

Supports Windows®, Macintosh® and Linux operating systems

Security: WEP/WPA/WPA2 and VPN pass-through support

Dimensions: 3.49″ x 3.49″ x .70″

Weight: 4.7 oz

Looking like a 3.49-inch rounded compact plastic square with an OLED display, this particular Jetpack has 3 buttons that let you manage connections, settings and display data usage alerts. Pricing for the device is not released yet. $269 is the price for Verizon’s Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4510L if that’s any indication to you.

According to their plans, they set their sights on the US as their primary market by the time 2015 rolls around, and in line with that vision, they hope to double their sales over the next year.

Phandroid is visibly pressed with no basic specs sheet given to them in the making of the video. Engadget is reporting a little more data for this mysterious prototype as the following:

Model T98 with 16 GB internal storage and microSD card slot;

7″ IPS-type 1280×800 screen;

Tegra 3 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.3 GHz;

Front/rear 1.3/5 Mpix cameras, no LED flash on rear camera (but it’s a prototype that some Ainol/Aigo may furnish with one);

possibly a 4100 mAh battery;

SIM slot

From my view of it, I doubt it runs “stock 4.0″ Android, it’s more like AOSP 4.0.1, and not full Android 4.0.3 “Final” version, so there should be no certified Android Market and Google Apps just yet. Anyway, it’s a prototype, so who cares. It didn’t show awfully fluid swipes, or transitions, in fact, none of these videos show these at all.

ZTE Peel 3200 could very well be for the iPad or iPod Touch

Yesterday, we caught a glimpse of a special iPod touch case that could effectively convert the media player into a functional iPhone. We have now discovered an alternative case thanks to FCC filings and some digging around over at PhoneScoop. It turns out that there is a very similar case called the ZTE Peel 3200 and it carries, get this, Sprint branding. This leads to believe that Sprint is looking for a workaround, so to speak, to getting an iPhone of its own without getting an iPhone of its own. The Peel case gives EV-DO connectivity, its own battery, and the ability to be used as a mobile hotspot. Let’s not forget about voice and text to boot.

It appears that the case doesn’t physically connect to the iPod touch, per se. This could mean that it latches on via Wi-Fi instead to make calls through Sprint’s 3G network. The unnamed case from earlier looked like it had a dock connector inside, making for a different configuration altogether.

Either way, couldn’t ZTE (or some other OEM) conceivably make a larger version of the Apple Peel 3200 for the iPad and achieve the same kind of functionality? Wouldn’t that just bite into the iPad 3G+WiFi model just a little?

[Gizmodo, PhoneScoop> via FCC]

So many cell phones these days suffer from poor battery life, because we are increasingly using them for high-speed mobile web surfing, video recording, Twitter updating, and so much more. Wouldn’t it be nice if your phone could keep charging while you’re on the go? That’s the idea behind this particular handset.

Having a mobile phone equipped with a solar panel isn’t exactly anything new, but it’s far from being the norm or even well-known around these parts. In fact, there has yet to be an official release of a solar phone in North America and that may change with the ZTE Coral 200FM.

The decidedly basic candybar phone has been submitted to the almighty FCC for approval, representing the first solar phone that may be sold through an American carrier. As you may already know, ZTE is a China-based mobile phone maker who is slowly making some headway into the North American market. It already has a sizable chunk of the market share in China.

Aside from the glaringly obvious solar panel covering most of the back of the phone, little else is known about the ZTE Coral 200FM. I don’t expect to find multi-touch, haptic feedback, an accelerometer or anything like that. Based on the images provided, it doesn’t appear to even have a camera!
