I used to hate that Macs didn’t support 2-button mice, and so I always favored PCs because they had the traditional 2 button (or more) style. One click, that’s really an annoying limitation, right? Imagine if a PC mouse had no buttons though. The reality is that such a mouse exists, called the “Stealth Touch Mouse”. This thing is completely buttonless, but instead of being a limitation, it’s a feature. This wireless 2.4GHz mouse uses all touch technology, meaning no scroll wheel, buttons or anything. Simple gestures like swipes, taps and slides control all the programmable features that this mouse can perform.

The Stealth Touch Mouse can also work at an impressive range of 33 feet. While it’s really cool looking, as a PC gamer, I’m not sure how I’d feel about a mouse that is completely without anything to click. Still, if you need something with long-range and an interesting amount of features that require no physical buttons, its hard to find anything else that compares. Because of its unique design and long range, this mouse also works great for presentations, and at $69 it’s not a bad deal.

We all know Canon for its impressive line-up of imaging products such as cameras and printers, and less for its X Mark I series of business products. Now it seems the company has added two wireless accessories to complement your desktop or laptop computer, the X Mark I Mouse Lite and the X Mark I Keypad.

The X Mark I Mouse Lite is actually a three-in-one product, combining a laser mouse, a keypad and a 10-digit calculator, being a space and time saver, especially for the messy people who never seem to keep their workplace in order or keep losing calculators. The three-in-one device comes in black or white, it is compatible with Windows PC and Mac laptops and features Bluetooth connectivity. If you ask me, this is quite an inventive little gadget that could target, say, accountants?

The Canon X Mark I Keypad combines a keypad and a 10-digit Semi-Desktop Calculator, also available in black and white and powered by AAA batteries. Both devices will sell for $59.99 each, the Lite one coming in August and the Keypad in September.

Three-in-one sounds pretty good for the moment, but I’m sure Canon can do more than this. For now, its X Mark I line (I still think the marketing department could’ve come up with a better name) can be a useful addition to any office or business professional, and it doesn’t look that bad either.

Who needs a mouse pad? For that matter, who needs a mousing surface at all when you can get smarter with something like the Genius Ring Mouse. It’s a mouse that you wear like a ring, controlling your computer with a few gentle strokes of your thumb.

The Ring Mouse is a pretty novel concept. It sounds like they’ve put a very small trackpad on the ring portion, letting your thumb slide over it to move around. The “touch-control technology” allows for up to 1000 dpi sensitivity. I imagine this’d be pretty great for sales presentations and other situations.

Like so many other wireless mice, the Genius Ring Mouse operates on the popular 2.4GHz frequency for an effective range of up to 30 feet. A portable USB battery charger and hard-shell carrying case come bundled with the $69.99 accessory. Genius has announced that they’ll sell it to North American consumers, but didn’t indicate a launch date.

I’m all for convergence. If you can give me one device that can suitably replace two devices, so long as there is no major loss in quality on either front, I’m a happy camper. That’s why the Chameleon X1 from Shogun Bros. sounds so intriguing. It may look like a mouse, but it’s also a gamepad.

On the one side, you get a fairly standard-looking optical mouse. There’s a scroll wheel in the middle, your usual assortment of buttons, and what appears to be an ambidextrous design. Shogun Bros. is saying that it has a 5-stage adjustable 1600dpi optical sensor with a 125Hz polling rate and it’ll connect wirelessly to your computer over the usual 2.4GHz dance.

Flip it over, though, and you’ll encounter a wholly different beast. It’s almost as if someone took the SNES gamepad, blew it up, and possibly added a couple of thumb sticks a la Sony Dualshock (at least that’s what they look like). You won’t really want to use something like this for Starcraft II, but it’d be great for all those MAME titles you have kicking around.

I’m hoping the performance is up to snuff, because at $55, the Chameleon X1 is actually reasonably priced. Look for it in Q1.

Some people are perfectly happy using an Xbox 360 or a PS3 as a media player in their living rooms. For the most part, these consoles can handle your MP3 music and your AVI videos. Other people want more, so they hook up their laptops to their HDTVs for added functionality. That can be a bit of a hassle though.

That’s why other people still are much more interested in using a home theatre PC (HTPC). In essence, you have a full-fledged multimedia computer connected to your HDTV, letting you do everything on that big TV that you would normally do on your home computer. The trouble is that all the controls typically come from a regular keyboard and mouse.

Using a full-size keyboard and mouse can be quite cumbersome. Instead, it may be much more convenient to consider this wireless combo controller from USB Geek. You get a notebook-style touchpad up top and full thumb-based QWERTY keyboard below. It may look like a graphing calculator or something, but it’s about all you need to control your HTPC.

It’s not the prettiest girl at the party, but it could be the most useful. Find it on sale for $62 at USB Geek.

I haven’t had a desktop as my primary computer for several years now, because I enjoy the greater versatility and portability offered by a notebook. At the same time, I spend the vast majority of my time working from home, so I still want to have a comfortable experience during extended working sessions. That’s where something like the Logitech MK605 Notebook Kit would come into play.

I’m certainly not alone in my yearning for a desktop-like experience with my laptop, so it’s good to see more complete kits like this being offered. With the MK605 bundle, you get a notebook riser, a wireless mouse, and a wireless keyboard. The display on your laptop gets elevated to eye level and you get to type on a “real” keyboard.

The good thing is that the provided notebook riser will give you more of a comfortable experience overall, but it is unfortunate that it is “just” a simple notebook riser. It would have been much better if there was at least passive cooling in the form of a vented surface. It would have been even better if it had some sort of active cooling with embedded fans.

On the plus side, the sleek black and yellow color scheme looks great and it carries straight through to all three items in the bundle. By buying the Logitech MK605 Notebook Kit at a retail price of $99, buyers get to enjoy a savings of about $30 compared to buying the three items separately.
