Ballmer promises Windows-powered tablets before end of year

The Apple iPad has quickly become ubiquitous and Android tablets will surely enjoy some popularity too. Not to sit idly by, Steve Ballmer is quick to point out that Microsoft has its stake in this arena too. He’s promising that the “new slates with Windows on them” will be shown off to world this Christmas.

Several Windows Phone 7 devices from Samsung before year’s end

If there is one smartphone manufacturer that is diversifying its interests, it has to be Samsung. It does feature phones with its own TouchWiz UI, it rocks out with Android, and it even has its own bada OS. And before Santa makes his rounds in a few months, Samsung will have “several” devices powered by Windows Phone 7 on the market.

First LTE smartphone from HTC scheduled for 2011 release

We have a couple of juicy tidbits for all the HTC smartphone enthusiasts in the audience. First, HTC has indeed confirmed that it has an LTE smartphone in the works, but it seems that this device will be slightly delayed in its launch. For now, the timetable is calling for a launch “some time in 2011.”

Over at HTC, they have the Sense UI for Google Android, so it only makes sense that they’d want to customize the user interface on their Windows Phone 7 devices too. Dell Lightning strikes with Windows Phone 7

Not particularly impressed with the Dell Mini 3i? Don’t really want anything to do with the Dell Streak series? That doesn’t mean that the giant computer maker isn’t going to go after your smartphone dollars with yet another offering. In a very exciting move, it seems that we could be getting our hands on the Dell Lightning smartphone.

While the hardware looks pretty slick (and I’ll get into that a little further in just a moment), the real news is that this will be powered by Windows Phone 7. Windows Mobile has really fallen into the background these last couple of years, getting overshadowed by the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android (and even webOS from Palm to an extent), so this could be a major boon for Microsoft.

Microsoft still going ahead with Project Pink phone?

A few days ago, we caught our first glimpse of Windows Phone 7 and we assumed it would represent the immediate future of Microsoft-powered smartphones. As it turns out, there could be an alternate path for the Redmond, Washington giant too. Remember Project Pink? Apparently, that’s still a go.
