After a very long wait for Windows Phone 7.8 for users of legacy Windows Phone hardware, the update finally started rolling out for many (but not all) supported handsets. The new update brings resizable tiles and some other WP8-style improvements, but apparently brings a new bug with it.

Reports are starting come in that the update is causing a glitch for some users where it effectively locks up Live Tiles and prevents them for updating dynamically. The live tile notifications in Windows Phone is one of the most recognized and crucial features for Windows Phone, so this is certainly a pretty big deal for some users.

The good news is that some users are reporting success fixing the glitch by resetting the phone and reinstalling apps, but that’s a lot of work when all is said and done. While this is always a possibility, if it sounds like too much– just be patient. Microsoft is already aware of the situation and is looking into a fix, so hopefully this won’t be a problem much longer.

Looking for an upgrade to Windows Phone 7.8 for your Nokia Lumia 710 on T-Mobile's network? Unfortunately, you will have no such luck it seems.

The post Nokia Lumia 710 Users On T-Mobile Network Not Getting Windows 7.8 appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

Looking for an upgrade to Windows Phone 7.8 for your Nokia Lumia 710 on T-Mobile’s network? If so, we are said to report that you are apparently T-Mobile is skipping the upgrade altogether.

The word comes directly from a 710 owner that decided to contact Nokia directly about whether or not his T-Mobile handset was getting the upgrade to 7.8 or not. Here’s what Nokia had to say:

“In response to your concern, we understand that you want to confirm if the Windows Phone 7.8 will be available for Nokia Lumia 710 from T-Mobile. We are sorry to inform you that there are a small number of operators that have chosen not to offer the update to their users.

It is important to recognize that this decision was made solely by the operator and these include the T-Mobile network in the United States.”

Basically, it wasn’t Nokia’s decision, but a carrier one. For the record, this probably also applies to the T-Mobile HTC Radar as well.

The good news is that the technically inclined folks out there aren’t left completely in the dark. It is completely possible to manually install Windows Phone 7.8 using CAB files. Certainly better that nothing.

What do you think of T-Mobile’s decision? Are you still clinging to the Lumia 710, if will you ditch the phone as soon as you can to move to Windows Phone 8 or perhaps a completely different platform? Let us know in the comments below.

According to WPDang, a Chinese tech site dedicated to Windows Phone, we may be seeing an unannounced software update for all Windows phones with 7.5 and below, and not only that, but the update may start to roll out globally today from 18:00 GMT.

Like previous updates, the 7.8 update will be pushed out in 4 waves over a total of 3 weeks, so if the rumor is true, you may not get the update right away. However, this is a nice bit of news for older Windows Phone users, especially when Blackberry 10 is about to hit the market.

There has already been a rumor regarding a 7.8 OS update for the Lumia 900 for AT&T scheduled for this date, so it’s likely Microsoft are up to something today. The new 7.8 update will add a few new features like a customizable home screen and lockscreen wallpaper, as well as a bunch of Nokia handset-only features.

Could you do with a Windows Phone update or are you perfectly fine with your current version of Windows Phone 7?

Building anticipation for the upcoming Windows Phone 7.8 release, a video that appears to be an early release of the Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade on a Nokia Lumia 900 has been leaked.

While this is a very short clip, not showing all of the features of the new update, it appears to be very fast and smooth on the Lumia. This update should be available to the general public in about 2 months.

While Windows Phone 7.8 isn’t as exciting as an upgrade path to Windows Phone 8 would have been, it’s still nice to see that Microsoft isn’t completely abandoning its Windows Phone 7 early adopters by giving them at least a few of the features from WP8.

Do you currently have a Windows Phone 7 handset, are you excited for the update or do you plan on getting a new smartphone soon, instead?

Ever buy a new phone to find out a week later that a better, faster, cooler phone just got released? We have all been there before, usually just stuck complaining to whomever will listen. Well, those who were Windows Phone 7 early adopters were stuck in that frustrating and helpless position when Windows Phone 8 was released. Fear not my friends, Microsoft’s long awaited Windows Phone 7.8 update is coming soon.

Previous rumors suggested that the update would hit by the end of the year. Unfortunately, Windows Phone Blog broke the news that the update will instead be released in early 2013.What will you get with the update to Windows 7.8? How about double the themes and accent colors, Words with Friends, Draw Something and don’t forget Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars. This is a far cry from the features and enhancements you’d find in Windows Phone 8, but it is certainly better than being totally left in the dark.

While there is no solid release date for the Windows 7.8 update, at least they’re still working on it. So hang in there my thrifty friends, no need to abandon hope or your Windows Phone 7 just yet.

You may have heard that current Windows Phone 7 devices are not be eligible for an upgrade to Windows Phone 8. This probably makes it harder to move current stock, something had to be done. In the case of AT&T, they’ve decided to cut the price of the Windows Phone 7-powered Nokia Lumia 900 down to a mere $50. That’s really cheap, considering the hardware that you’re packing, like the 1.4GHz processor and the 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display.

Of course, that $50 price isn’t for an outright purchase. You will have to sign up for a qualifying contract. That said, at least you’ll be getting upgraded to Windows Phone 7.8, complete with the updated Start screen. Tiles can get resized, for instance, but it is going to bug you this fall when the first batch of Windows Phone 8 devices start hitting shelves.

What do you think? Is the price slash enough to make the Nokia Lumia 900 enticing for folks considering a new smartphone? Or are they still more inclined to get a new Android device or iPhone? Does the pink version persuade or dissuade you?
