ViewSonic is announcing immediate availability of the ViewPad 10 tablet we heard about last November. The 10-inch slate will most notably dual boot between Android and Windows 7, the hardware on board is an Intel Atom 1.66GHz processor, 2GB memory to make up for the lack of dual-core functionality, and the option of 16GB or 32GB SSD hard drives. We initially heard the price of $639, but that has changed with the $599 price point being set for the 16GB model and $679 being set for the 32GB. Screen resolution is at 1024×600 pixels and uses LED to backlight the capacitive touch screen. Not the best timing in the world for ViewSonic, I think most people can wait for the iPad 2 and avoid the outdated Android 1.6 OS and the Windows 7 not even optimized for tablets.

Dell is attempting to flourish in the creativity department. Their latest creation with unimaginable inspiration comes in the form of their new Inspiron Duo 10” tablet/netbook concraption. The Flip screen device will allow itself to be either a netbook, or a tablet – depending on your mood. One thing to keep in mind is these types of convertible tablets are more often than not, running Windows 7 Premium. Basically you’re using a pen on your desktop; which isn’t the greatest experience in terms of intuitiveness. When will manufacturers drop these dual-functioning tablet/notebooks? I’m not sure about you, but I don’t wan’t a crappy tablet attached to a netbook or notebook. Just give me the best damn tablet and be done with it. Not some wanna be laptop with a touchscreen. Prove me wrong with a Windows 7 variant optimized for tablets, otherwise give me an iPad or Galaxy Tab and be done with it.

The Fujitsu Lifebook T730 Tablet PC is one beast of a machine. These are some first hand pics for you to take a gander at. It’s a bulky little tablet, but you’re getting a full-fledged power house of a computer packed inside this fliptastic form factor. This thing has everything under the kitchen sink. Fujitsu is making them with the core i3 to i5 range of chips, with 2GB to 4GB DDR3 memory; if you look at this only as a tablet, you will surely be disappointed by its size. If you cant get away from a notebook, but need the tablet functionality, this might be something you’re looking for. The touchscreen is deadly accurate, with a Wacom Active digitizer pen to go with its capacitive multi-touch screen.

Prices range from as low as $1,199 up to $1,749. They are taking on the netbook and tablet market all in one shot with this little hybrid. The screen is nicely lit, the stylus is very responsive and accurate (much more so than a finger). Stay tuned for a full on review.

Toshiba Australia Managing Director, Mark Whittard, quickly whipped it out in conclusion to the event. Obviously that peaked many eyebrows, so they gave us a taste. The details were that multiple devices are on the horizon, both Windows 7 tablets and Android tablets, but the SmartPad’s specific OS has yet to be named. I’m leaning towards Windows 7 considering what can be seen from the preview photos; HDMI output, USB ports, memory card reader and a dock connector are the obvious.

No definite specifications were revealed – just these teaser pics – but its still looking like an October launch date for the iPad look-a-like clone.

This latest video shows a Windows 7 tablet and Apple iPad going head to head in a series of every day tasks. The hardware used for the Windows 7 contender is the Hanvon Windows 7 slate, one of many Windows 7 tablets that will be released before the year is out.

One thing that stands out is the obvious LCD size difference, it seems to cramp up the keyboard and cut off websites. I’m also still up in the air about the ghosting key effect when you are typing. And doesn’t that thing automatically disappear when you are done typing? Perhaps these are user configurable settings, and if not, they better be. Windows 7 web browsing and scrolling shows a staggered, jittery look; while the iPad is much more smooth and fluid. Don’t forget, in Windows 7 you will have an actual choice of browsers, so the native app will not be forced upon you. You also get USB ports and an SD card slot, oh, and a camera too. But you don’t need all those extra distractions, do you?
