The company who originally released their device as the WePad, has officially announced a name change to the WeTab. What spawned the name change of the WePad? Was it too confusingly similar to the iPad? Or perhaps a pad was not the ultimate desired intention, and a tab would be more fitting to it's intended use. I mean seriously, a WePad does sound a little like a pad you are going to urinate on. Ok, they are from Germany we can give them that, but just ask a 10 year old from North America and they could have figured it out pretty quickly.

The post Marketing clarification causes WePad to rename Android tablet to WeTab appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

The company who originally released their device as the WePad, has officially announced a name change to the WeTab. What spawned the name change of the WePad? Was it too confusingly similar to the iPad? Or perhaps a pad was not the ultimate desired intention, and a tab would be more fitting to it’s intended use. I mean seriously, a WePad does sound a little like a pad you are going to urinate on. Ok, they are from Germany we can give them that, but just ask a 10 year old from North America and they could have figured it out pretty quickly.

WeTab’s press release states “To clearly differentiate our products within the international market for tablet computers,” I guess they were getting interest from other markets around the world, like drug stores and geriatric care centers.

It looks like this tablet thing is really going to take off and the Apple iPad won't be the only one populating the space. One of the more interesting offerings will be the WePad, not to be confused for an adults incontinence garment - a touchscreen-enabled device running on Google Android. Well, we've got more info about that number now.

It looks like this tablet thing is really going to take off and the Apple iPad won’t be the only one populating the space. One of the more interesting offerings will be the WePad, not to be confused for an adults incontinence garment – a touchscreen-enabled device running on Google Android. Well, we’ve got more info about that number now.

Several important details were announced regarding the WePad today, including the official specs, pricing, and the pending release date. The WePad results from a collaboration between Neofonie and 4titoo. Siemens, Intel and Adobe have signed on as partners. You can expect to get an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 touchscreen, a couple of USB 2.0 ports, Flash and AIR support, a six hour lithium-ion battery, memory card reader, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, stereo speakers, and optional GPS.

The cheaper of the two has a 1.66GHZ Intel Atom N450 processor with 16GB of flash storage, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 1.3MP camera for $611. Bump up to $774 and you get 3G and 32GB of storage. This model lineup is similar (albeit even more simplified) than the Apple iPad.

The people of Germany will be able to start placing their preorders on April 27 with a “soft launch with limited availability” coming in July. Release beyond the borders of Germany won’t happen until at least August, but there is nary a mention of a North American launch just yet.
