The first Camangi WebStation Android Tablet

Camangi had a 7-inch Android tablet earlier this year that well, didn’t really steal the show. It came out at $399, then quickly dropped to $275, but even at that price it didn’t seem worth it with all things considered. Reviewers on Amazon complained of it being “very unstable” and “very slow.” This iteration was running Android 1.6, had a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, a Marvell PXA303 624MHz process and only 128MB RAM. Getting ready for IFA, Camangi has posted the specifications of their next Anrdoid tablet, the Camangi WebStation II. This will come with Android 2.2 Froyo, already much better. A 1GHz, Samsung S5PV210 processor, 512MB DDR2 RAM, 2GB of iNAND, an 8GB SD card, all the while bumping the display up to 1024 x 600 (WSVGA) with Capacitive multi-touch.

It’s already sounding much better, but is it too late for Camangi? If they had came out with this the first time around it would have been a better opening for them. Now with every manufacturer readying some sort of tablet, it isn’t going to get easier on the Taiwanese manufacturer. The WebStation II will also feature HDMI mini out, 3G data, WiFi, Bluetooth, user-replaceable battery, 3-axis accelerometer, 5 megapixel front-facing camera, and a GPS. No word on price or availability, but we can expect more details and pics at IFA next month.
