When it comes to 3rd party stylus offerings for the iPad, most are nothing more than simple pens that offer a finer tip and nothing more. What if you want a pressure sensitive experience that somewhat mimics Wacom technology? If that’s what you want, than consider Pogo Connect.

The Pogo Connect joins Ten One Design’s exciting stylus line-up and offers a new pressure sensitive system that is extremely responsive- or so they claim. This isn’t the first stylus of its kind, though. Jaja Stylus also offers a pressure-sensitive approach, though it uses high-frequency sound to transmit pressure information from the pen to the iPad. In contrast, the Connect utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 for transmission.
Another big difference between the Pogo Connect and the Jaja stylus is that the Jaja was a Kickstarter project that might not surface for a while. The Ten One stylus, on the other hand, will ship on October 31st for $79.95.

Other cool features for the Pogo Connect include the ability to lock out your ‘palm’ when using the pen, so you don’t accidentally leave smudges on your artwork. The patent-pending Crescendo Sensor is the hart of the Connect and allows it to provide hundreds of levels of pressure sensitivity. It also works at all angles, doesn’t require calibration and is a Solid State Device- so no moving parts that can easily be broken.
What about losing or misplacing the pen? As long as its not a super-far distance, no problem. A built-in radio transmitter can be used to track it down using a radar-style viewer that will show you the distance between the pen and your iDevice.

Pogo Connect works with a single AAA battery and supports sixteen apps so far. This includes Brushes, Zen Brush, PDFpen for iPad, FlipBook HD, Procreate, Sketch Club, SketchBook Pro, Art Stuido, Good Notes, Colors, Paper by FiftyThree, Noteshelf, NotePad Pro, NoteBidder, IbisPaint and ArtRage.

What do you think? Worth considering?

Most of the creative types in the audience will swear by their Wacom tablets, but that doesn’t mean you have to pay full price to get one. In fact, the full range of Intuos5 Touch Pen Tablets is now on sale for $100 off each. This includes the small, medium, and large variations.

All three versions of the Wacom Intuos5 touch pen tablets come bundled with Corel Painter 12, so you can start getting creative right out of the box. The multi-touch surface makes it easy to pan, zoom and navigate and, as can be expected with Wacom, you get a surface that is sensitive to different levels of pen pressure. Indeed, it supports 2048 levels of pressure for even more precise control. The ExpressKeys can be user-defined for shortcuts too.

Further aiding in the navigation is the finger-sensitive Touch Ring. This gives you intuitive control of brush size, scrolling and other functions. The interface shouldn’t get in the way of your creativity; it should accentuate and complement it. The Intuos5 Grip Pen also comes along with ten replacement nibs, including a flexi nib, stroke nib, and three hard felt nibs.

The small, medium, and large versions of the Wacom Intuos5 touch pen tablet come with pen active areas of 3.9 x 6.2 inches, 5.5 x 8.8 inches, and 8.0 x 12.8 inches, respectively. Find them on the Amazon page for $100 off, getting you down to $229, $349 and $469 for the three sizes. And yes, that includes free shipping too.

Wacom Bamboo tablets are pretty great for graphic design work, but it’s even more accurate when you can work directly on the screen. Bumping up performance to the next level is the newly announced Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch. This is the latest version of Wacom’s 24HD pen display and drawing screen series.

This newest version is very much like the regular 24HD that came before it, but now Wacom has added gesture control and multi-touch features to the mix for the 24HD Touch. They’re also promising an improved 24-inch display with 1.07 billion colors, covering 97% of Adobe’s RGB gamut. There’s also RGB backlighting for even better color rendition.

“Increasingly, as creative software incorporates multi-touch interaction and gesture support, the Cintiq 24HD touch provides a natural input experience for all related activities including concept sketching, illustration and especially 3D activities such as sculpting, modeling and animation,” says Professional Products Brand Director Don Varga. “The ability to manipulate a 3D model or pan, zoom and rotate an image with one hand while simultaneously sculpting or sketching with the other delivers a completely natural experience enabling artists to stay completely in their creative zone.”

Be expected to pay a pretty penny for all of this though. The Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch will retail for $3699 when it ships this August, a full $1100 more than its predecessor.

The ASUS Eee Slate EP121 is not your usual tablet with all those low-powered and low-performance ARM chips inside. Eee Slate has a mighty Intel i5 CPU inside, plus an Intel HD graphics chip to drive a beautiful and roomy 12.1″ screen that is not only capacitive, but also has a pressure-sensitive Wacom layer that takes precise input from a Wacom digitizer pen. Running Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit with 2 GB of RAM, it’s every bit a Windows machine than that one sitting on your desk. Check below for overdone marketing videos by Asus on their newly unveiled Windows tablet.

1. Stay connected to the wider world with the ASUS Eee Slate:

For regular visiting and browsing flea markets, the ASUS Eee Slate is definitely better than bulky, full-sized laptops.

2. Get creative with the ASUS Eee Slate

Artists can really gain in their creativity and productivity when using Eee Slate. What’s not to love in full Photoshop?

3. Make your business more mobile with the ASUS Eee Slate

Being mobile when running a restaurant is important. This particular restaurant also boasts a mobile kitchen on top of that, so being mobile with Eee Slate is twice important. Just don’t spill your sauces on the Slate grill.

4. My powerful work and play companion

One thing is looking for a perfect pair of shoes at the local flea market, another thing is using a tablet PC in serious business environment. ASUS Eee Pad EP121 can do both.

Earlier today Mobile Magazine had an article about how accessory company, Anymode, let the cat out of the bag early about the upcoming US-market version Samsung Galaxy Note would debut at CES.

Now Samsung has officially announced the LTE-equipped Galaxy Note. AT&T will be hooking up the device with its brand new 4G LTE service.

This oversized phone or mini-tablet sports a 5.3-inch 1280×800 ultra high resolution Super AMOLED Plus display, an S-pen that works as active Wacom-style stylus, and it runs Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. Battery is a powerful 2,500 mAh to support this big, dense and hungry screen.

We knew this day would come eventually, and it looks like today’s the day. However, this toy is quite expensive fetching around $700 for a non-LTE unlocked version in Europe. Additionally, it seems like a lot to pay for a smartphone that is still running Android 2.3 versus 4.0 ICS.

No word on when shipping begins.

If you are a graphic designer you know Wacom, they come from a long tradition of providing an industry standard tablet. And then there are instances where you may want a stylus for your iPad, enter the Wacom Bamboo Stylus.

Wacom has seen a large adoption of artists using the iPad, so why not expand business with a tool we are very well capable of building. All stylus tips for capacitive screens have really fat nubs at the end, a slight step down from your stubby finger. But the tip on the Wacom Bamboo Stylus is “25 percent narrower (6mm vs. 8mm) in diameter than some of the other most popular solutions on the market today.”

That may give you better accuracy and precision when you’re doodling away on the subway to work. We’ll have to see if iOS can handle such precision. They also outfitted it with satin-textured metal body and balanced weighting.

I have a smaller Wacom Bamboo myself and it’s great. Now if Wacom would come out with an artists app and put Photoshop to shame. The iPad Bamboo Stylus hits stores in mid-May for $29.99.

Graphic artists and website designers swear by their Wacom Bamboo tablets, since it’s so much easier to draw out logos and other pieces of digital art using a tablet than trying to do it with a conventional mouse. It makes a world of difference, but the problem is that most graphic tablets don’t do the multitouch thing. This means that you can’t take advantage of the gestures built into Mac OS X.

Well, Wacom is waking up and smelling the roses, because the new Bamboo Touch is fully compatible with the range of multitouch gestures you know and love. This multitouch trackpad measures 5.0 x 3.5 inches, giving you enough room to do two finger zooming and scrolling. It’s built for finger-based input, just like a regular trackpad and it retails for just $69.

If you prefer to use a pen for your artwork, the appropriately named Wacom Bamboo Pen (also $69) is more for you. The trackpad is the same size as the Bamboo Touch and it’s just as happy with multi-touch (as far as I can tell), though you’ll need two pens to do it. To get touch and pen, you’ll want the $99 Bamboo Pen and Touch (that makes sense).

For people who need a tablet with a larger trackpad surface, Wacom is also offering the $129 Bamboo Craft and $199 Bamboo Fun. They also come with more software and other goodies. All versions will work with Windows (including Win7) and Mac environments.
