From now on you can use a Google Now style voice search on your chrome browser. It is now available in the latest Chrome stable version for the desktop, and all you have to do is get the new update by taking the following steps:

Launch your Chrome browser and open the settings.

Click on Help and after a few seconds you will be prompted to relaunch Chrome.

After you restart Chrome, just head to Google and click the microphone icon in the search box.

You will have to give permission for Google to use your microphone (look for the bar on top), depending on your privacy settings.

Then you speak.

Testing it out, we can tell you this isn’t as “fancy” as was shown off at Google I/O. More than likely this is just the beginning, and a more advanced form of the search will arrive a bit down the road.

Have you started using voice search? What do you think of the changes?

Yesterday, François Beaufort discovered “Issue 11412291: Creating a skeleton for Google Now for Chrome implementation”. The issue pertains to the structure for showing Google Now cards in Chrome with Chrome Notifications.

In short, Google will be bringing Google Now cards to Chrome with Chrome Notifications soon. Google Now’s card style of displaying information is already somewhat in use in Google Search. More specifically, if you were to Google “new york giants”, you would receive a list of the Giant’s upcoming games as well as their past games.

Making Google Search more personal would be a huge change for Google Search. If Google Now were to break free of its mobile constraints, it would become accessible from anywhere Google is.

Keep an eye out for changes in Google Search. The search giant is constantly improving its website and products in addition to making them faster and faster.

Will you use Google Now when it comes to Google Chrome? Do you even use Google Chrome as your browser? Let us know in the comments below.

Maybe you’re not a fan of the Siri or you think your digital voice assistant could use some digital assistance. If you’ve got a jailbroken iPhone, you can now pick up the NowNow app to address that very need.

I should be clear, though, that this isn’t really Google Now in the way that you get with Android Jelly Bean. You don’t get those “cards” for the weather and directions for the drive home. Instead, what NowNow does is bring Google Voice Search to the forefront. All you have to do is hold the home button and up will pop the Google Voice Search. That part of the interface really does look like the Android equivalent.

It should be noted that Google Voice Search doesn’t communicate with other iOS apps, so you won’t be able to set appointments or that kind of thing, but you might find the Google searches to be more accurate than what Siri is giving you. You can find NowNow in the BigBoss repository in Cydia and it’s a free download.

When it comes to searching or texting, having the ability to get the job done quickly with text alone is certainly a good way to go. For many of us, Voice Search is something we use all the time, but it isn’t available for everyone. Starting today, Google is expanding its language support to a total of 42 languages and accents in 46 countries. The new languages include:

Basque

Bulgarian

Catalan

European Portuguese

Finnish

Galician

Hungarian

Icelandic

Norwegian

Romanian

Serbian

Slovak

Swedish

According to Google, adding a new language takes a lot of time and many volunteers, but is something that they are constantly trying to expand. The new update has begun to roll out now and will continue to do so over the next week until its come to all users with Android 2.2 or later for all 42 languages. For those that know several languages, it is important to note that you can only use one language at a time and will need to change language settings to use a different voice search language.

Google is one step closer to reading your mind. They revealed several new features for mobile yesterday that will make searching easier, faster and more predictive to the point it feels like they’re probing your brain.

Voice Search

People are searching for answers even when they step away from their computers. Google notes that in the past two years, mobile search traffic has grown five-fold, so they’ve introduced Voice Search. The feature will free you from having to type using the tiny keys on your phone. There’s a little microphone that shows up in the search bar to help you search by voice. Google’s English Voice Search system has a bank of 230 billion words from real queries, which can accurately recognize the phrases people are likely to say. In the past year, Google says Voice Search traffic has grown six-fold, and every time you speak your words get added to the system. Google has also added voice search on the desktop for Chrome users. If you’re using Chrome, you’ll start to see a little microphone in every Google search box. Simply click the microphone, and you can speak your search. Which means that when you open your mouth to search something, Google is right there. Listening.

Search by Image

Taking the idea of Google Goggles one step further, you will be able to search by image on desktop. Next to the microphone on images.google.com, you’ll also see a little camera for the new Search by Image feature. If you click the camera, you can upload any picture and ask Google to figure out what it is, whether it’s an intriguing landmark or mysterious meme. Basically, whenever you’re stumped and trying to recognize something, you just whip out your phone, take a photo and Google will tell you what it is. Google knows everything.

Instant Pages

Because searching requires so much time and effort, Google has rolled out Instant Pages, which will prerender results of a page Google thinks you’re going to click. According to the company, Google Instant, which gave us search results while we typed, saves us between two and five seconds on a search. But once you picked a result and clicked it, you still have to wait an estimated five seconds for the page to load. They want to shorten that agonizing wait time with Instant Pages. Basically, after Google Instant predicts which page you’re going to click as you’re performing a search, Google will preload (cache) that page in the background. It preloads all the images, video, javascript, etc., so that when you do click the link everything is there. Waiting for you. Google knows your next move. Google is watching you. Well, maybe not. Though if you’re lounging in your backyard, Google Earth will be watching you. Google wants to be there whenever you search anything, and become so embedded in your thought process it’s only natural to go there whenever you’re curious about something. The potential for even more predictive ads is astounding.
