So, you’ve decided to upgrade your computer to Windows 8 and now you’re finding that you really want to have a touchscreen to take advantage of all those gestures. There are plenty of laptops and tablets out there with touchscreens, but what about your desktop? Thankfully, there are touchscreen monitors too and they can be quite reasonably priced.

One such example is the Viewsonic TD2420 24-inch monitor. This LED monitor is fully multi-touch compatible, so you’ll be able to do all of those Windows 8 things that you want to do. Along with the interactive stylus, the TD2420 is said to be great “as a POS device, information kiosk, or in hospital and classroom environments.”

Naturally, the TD2420 has a 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution. In addition to the screen itself, it also comes with a pair of integrated 2W speakers with SRS premium sound. Input options include HDMI, VGA and DVI, and then there’s the VESA mount on the back if you want to put this on the wall.

Regular price is $552.00, but the ViewSonic TD2420 is on sale for $367.40 through Amazon, representing a savings of nearly $200.

Want a large “Smart Display” that works like a tablet, but is designed for use in one spot? ViewSonic has you coverd with its new ViewSonic VSD220 Smart Display.

Essentially, the VSD220 is a tablet with a stand that isn’t designed for movement. Sounds strange huh? Actually, the idea of a 22-inch Android touch device could be perfect for uses in bars, kitchens, restaurants and even in the living room/office as a replacement for a conventional PC. And you thought that the Toshiba Excite was large, right?

What kind of power do we find under the hood of the Smart Display VSD220? The device isn’t a power-house, but it’s more than capable for running most of your Android needs, thanks to its OMAP 4 dual-core processor.

Other specs include micro-HDMI video input, 1.2MP front cam, microSD, 3x USB ports, 1x Ethernet jack, 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage and the power of Android 4.0 ICS. The 22-inch display also features a 1920×1080 pixel resolution.

It’s worth noting that this IS a desktop machine, there is no battery in the VSD220.

Again, this might not be for everyone. If you want a stationary touch-device though, this could really be a game changer. If it boils down to pricing, you won’t be too disappointed. The ViewSonic VSD220 Smart Display will arrive in mid-to-late October with a $399 price point.

Viewsonic this week announced their entire lineup of products for the MWC, which includes four new devices in total.

First up is the ViewPhone 4S, yes 4S that is not a typo, which features a 3.5-inch 960×640 display, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, and a 1GHz processor on board. Next we have the ViewPhone 4E, with its 650MHz processor and a 3.5-inch HVGA display and a 3MP camera. This is followed by the ViewPhone 5e though all we know is that it has a 5-inch WVGA display.

The biggest reveal though is the new ViewPad G70. This new tablet will have 7-inch 1024×600 screen, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 2MP rear-facing camera, VGA front-camera, 1GB of Ram, 4GB of internal storage and expandable microSD.

It is also great to know that the each of these new devices will include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and the phones will all have dul-SIM capabilities. Expect more details at MWC.

One more sample of Viewsonic’s latest offerings coming out of CES is the ViewPhone 3. The significant feature of this Android 2.3 smartphone will probably be its dual-SIM capability and low price point of $279 unlocked.

On all accounts, this mid-market phone showed pretty bad lag when swiping between screens or scrolling. It supposed to hit Latin American markets at said $279 later this quarter, and it will be the first Viewsonic phone there. We can only hope it won’t be the last.

I can’t say how good the sales of ViewPhones 1 and 2, I really don’t know so its a mystery how well Viewsonic’s mobile division is fairing against the Huawei’s and other lower tiered manufacturers. Maybe, there are some markets where these were doing just fine, and maybe this 3.5″ 800 MHz single-core ARM Cortex A8 based phone will be a hit there. But from a sample for this CES 2012, there’s nothing exceptional about the phone except for its dual-SIM capability. Two SIMs allow for both business and work use on the same device, and there’s HSDPA connectivity along with WiFi and Bluetooth, and that’s practically all that goes for it.

With the touch-optimized Windows 8 soon on its way, you would think that every hardware maker out there would have a big “On Hold” sign over any possible plans for Windows tablets until late-2012. Of course you'd be wrong, as Viewsonic announced at CES that it is releasing the new ViewPad 10i.

The post Viewsonic’s Windows 7 Oak Trail Tablet appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

With the touch-optimized Windows 8 soon on its way, you would think that every hardware maker out there would have a big “On Hold” sign over any possible plans for Windows tablets until late-2012.

Of course you’d be wrong, as Viewsonic announced at CES that it is releasing the new ViewPad 10i.

The 10i runs on the latest Intel Oak Trail Atom Z670 processor, and uses Windows 7 Professional as its OS of choice.

The ViewPad 10i manages to wiegh only 1.77 pounds, features a super high-res IPS display (1280×800), has 64GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, dual cameras, 4 hours of battery life, and pre-loaded customized apps and software with touch in mind.

So why is Viewsonic releasing a Windows 7 tablet now when 8 is coming in late 2012? I suppose part of the reason could be to try and attract users that what to test Windows 8 beta out on the latest tablet hardware around.

Nonetheless, I wouldn’t expect the 10i to fly off store shelves anytime soon. As for Viewsonic’s new $170 ICS tablet, that’s another story.

While Android “Honeycomb” had fairly strict hardware restrictions that kept most low-end tablets from ever getting past Android 2.x, this isn’t the case with Android 4.0 ICS. With lower restrictions, we are starting to see new entry-level tablets arrive on scene that take advantage of ICS.

One of these is the ViewSonic ViewPad e70. At $169, you get Android 4.0, a low-res 800×480 display, and an unidentified ARM-based 1GHz single core processor. Still, the device is said to be fairly responsive for such lower-end specs and manages to have a capacitive touchscreen over the cheaper ‘resistive’ variety.

The e70 also has a Micro-SD card slot for expansion, micro-HDMI, and 4G of storage. Honestly, I feel like 4GB is rather paltry for a tablet, but keep in mind this is an entry-level model.

The bad news? No official Google Android Market, instead we have the Amazon Appstore and Amazon Kindle app pre-installed.
While the Ainol Novo 7 still manages to retain the record for lowest-priced ICS tablet, at least Viewsonic’s offering is from a little more recognized and trusted brand who knows how to make decent displays.

Additionally, the Viewsonic uses an ARM processor, which means better compatibility than the MIPS-based Novo 7.

ViewSonic is expected to ship the E70 sometime during the first quarter of 2012.

Being made available for pre-order on Amazon last month, ViewSonic’s ViewPad 7e is expected to ship at the end of October and will be pegged at around $200.

This android tablet features Android 2.3 Gingerbread, unfortunately not Honeycomb. It also measures just 7” and has a 1GHz ARM A8 processor which is perfect for web browsing and flash video. The price is very fair considering its specs; dual cameras, 4GB storage with microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, HDMI output and a “RiteTouch” 7 inch capacitive display. Considered to be an affordable low-end tablet, the ViewPad 7e does not have official support for the Android Market; but you can still access the Amazon’s Appstore and other pre-loaded apps such as TuneIn Radio, WildTangent games, Twitter and Kindle.

The company also improved the Gingerbread experience by adding ViewScene 3D interface to the tablet, making it able to deliver a home screen layout complete with holographic visual effects. This might be interpreted as an attempt to please users who wanted Honeycomb.

The tablet will be available in Latin America in November.

Viewsonic, a Taiwanese company has finally revealed the Viewsonic ViewPas 10e, the most recent Android tablet in the company’s collection of affordable tablets.

Unlike other affordable tablets which have screens that have poorer quality, the ViewPad 10e boasts of its 9.7 inch IPS display which has a 1024 x 768 resolution. It also gives users the same pixel density as the iPad 2, and has 400nits of brightness.

A 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 4GB internal memory and 512 MB RAM round out the specs at a more than adequate offering. On top of that, a micro SD card slot is located at the bottom of the tablet. Other features of the ViewPad include a mini HDMI, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a Micro USB slot. Although it has no GPS, you can still use its Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity.

There is only one camera on this tablet, a front-facing 1.3 megapixel for Skype and video conferencing. The ViewPad is only 9.1 mm thick and weighs only 620 grams, making it very convenient to carry around. Inside the tablet is a 5400 mAh Li-Poly battery which powers up the device.

Of course, there are some disadvantages in using the ViewPad. It is not a Google certified device so you will not find the signs of the Gmail or the Android Market but there is the Kindle app to make up for it. The price is still unknown so we will have to wait until they announce one.

ViewSonic has utilised its pedigree display history and coupled this with its innovative tablet expertise to create a 9.7” mobile device that measures only 9.1mm thin and weighs only 620grams, making it perfectly portable. Powered by the more than ample 1Ghz Cortex A8 processor, the ViewPad 10e has extremely fast DDR3 memory, combined with 4GB built-in memory which can be expanded with an additional 32GB via the Micro SD slot.

Virtually hidden within the slim device is a range of connectivity options that ensures the ViewPad 10e is connected and makes an impact wherever it goes. The Wireless b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity ensure high speed data transfer when required. The Mini HDMI connector offers a display output of up to 720p resolution, making the ViewPad 10e a strong portable media playing device.

The ViewPad 10e does not just have impressive hardware specifications; Amazon Kindle is pre-installed providing immediate access to 700k+ books, magazines and papers, all displayed as they were meant to appear on the extra wide viewing angles an IPS panel brings. In addition ViewSonic includes a market place application which allows access to 000’s of additional applications and games.

ViewScene 3D completes the ViewPad 10e by providing a customisable 3D style user interface that really maximises the IPS panel technology. It's a shame they didn't get Honeycomb under the hood of this 10.1-inch slate, but at least you have Google and Microsoft working together under the same framework. To make things more interesting, this is one of the first tablets to be powered by an Intel Atom processor.

The post ViewSonic ViewPad 10pro tablet lets you run both Android and Win7 appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

Let’s say that you want a tablet and you’re pretty sure that Android is for you, but you also want to do the Windows thing on the same tablet when you need to run a certain application. If that’s the case, ViewSonic is gearing up its ViewPad 10pro tablet for someone just like you. That’s right, this device is a dual-booter.

It may look like any other tablet, but the ViewPad 10pro runs both Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Windows 7. It’s a shame they didn’t get Honeycomb under the hood of this 10.1-inch slate, but at least you have Google and Microsoft working together under the same framework. To make things more interesting, this is one of the first tablets to be powered by an Intel Atom processor.

More specifically, you get the Atom Z670 clocked in at 1.5GHz. Other core specs include the 1024×600 screen resolution, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI out, 1.3MP front camera, microSD expansion, and up to 8 hours of battery life. I applaud ViewSonic in trying to be versatile, but I have a feeling this only fits a very niche market. It also doesn’t help that pricing starts at $599 for the 16GB model (Win7 Home Premium) and goes up to $699 for the 32GB model (Win7 Professional).

Look for them both later this month.

ViewSonic is announcing immediate availability of the ViewPad 10 tablet we heard about last November. The 10-inch slate will most notably dual boot between Android and Windows 7, the hardware on board is an Intel Atom 1.66GHz processor, 2GB memory to make up for the lack of dual-core functionality, and the option of 16GB or 32GB SSD hard drives. We initially heard the price of $639, but that has changed with the $599 price point being set for the 16GB model and $679 being set for the 32GB. Screen resolution is at 1024×600 pixels and uses LED to backlight the capacitive touch screen. Not the best timing in the world for ViewSonic, I think most people can wait for the iPad 2 and avoid the outdated Android 1.6 OS and the Windows 7 not even optimized for tablets.
