Verizon Wireless at CES had Golden-i on display. The rugged headset is aimed to public safety and field work applications where visual data can be fed to the wearer. This is not so far away from Terminator T-800 facial scanning and recognition technology we saw in the sci-fi flick from 1984. Information like missing children, floor plans of the building, and remote surveillance camera feeds are just some of the examples of the data that could be attained when in use in field.

The display sits in front of your right eye, it’s easy to read, sound is clear and audible even in CES. Navigation was done by voice command, like bringing up the home screen or launching apps. Noise cancellation microphones are heavily used otherwise it would have difficulty in its surrounding environment. The device will run on Verizon’s LTE network since the bandwidth to send this video will be quite vast. It supports Bluetooth, runs a TI OMAP processor and is essentially a full computer running Windows CE 6.

Verizon Wireless customers know this from past experiences, weak 4G signals can overtake the entire network and bring large scale outages going for hours and hours.

In areas with Verizon Wireless LTE service, the Sleek 4G-V is aimed to give you a strong LTE signal, as well as conventional 3G or 2G signals. Benefits include fewer dropped connections and no-service “dead zones,” faster data transfer rates and improved battery life for wireless devices.

The Sleek 4G-V is on display at the Wilson Electronics booth #35219 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, level 2, through Jan. 13.

The $149.95 4G booster will be available in the second quarter of 2012. It links up with Verizon Wireless’ 700 MHz LTE, as well as all carriers’ 3G and 2G cellular signals on 800 MHz and 1900 MHz frequency bands. It provides up to 20 times amplification of an ordinary cell phone signal, device is also designed for use in a vehicle, and can be used indoors with the purchase of an optional accessory kit. That makes it perfect for boosting signal to 4G wireless hotspots like the Verizon JetPack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4510L.

I’m not on Verizon, I didn’t experience any of its outages. But as long as it boosts 2G/3G signals, too, it might be a good gadget for me, too.

From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless along with Motorola have announced many new additions to the Droid Razor Family. One of the new members added to this family is called RAZR MAXX.

The android powered device is 8.99mm, slightly on the thicker side when compared to the Droid RAZR which is just 7.1mm, but don’t let that discourage you the RAZR MAXX is not over weight by any means.

The device is designed for customers who spend long hours multi-tasking and promises a whooping 21 hours of life straight on a single charge. Motorola claims that is the longest-lasting SmartPhone on the block, but we are unsure as to what the battery life is being claimed for. Are we talking about 21hrs of gameplay? or 21hrs of video streaming?

There is certainly a difference between 21 hours of intense use on one charge and 21 hours if you don’t do anything except keep it on. Most likely it is 21 hours with light use, if we had to take a guess.

The Droid RAZR MAXX comes packing 32Gb of total memory. To get your hands on this one, you will have to shell out $299.99 with a 2-year agreement.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is now ready to make its official debut with Verizon Wireless. Yes, this is the Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone that you've all been waiting for. I know I have.

After a bit of a false start the other day, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is now ready to make its official debut with Verizon Wireless. Yes, this is the Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone that you’ve all been waiting for. I know I have.

The Galaxy Nexus, as you know, is the first smartphone to offer Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as its operating system. That does away with the physical buttons at the bottom of the device, replacing them with on-screen icons instead. There are all sorts of other goodies, like the extra large 4.65-inch Super AMOLED 720p display and integrated NFC, as well as better multitasking.

As far as the Verizon part of the equation goes, Big Red is selling the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for $299.99 on a qualifying two-year contract. There’s a “limited time promotion” on right now that gives you double the 4G LTE data for free. The $30 option with 2GB of data, for instance, gets bumped to 4GB. Naturally, you need a voice plan too. Up here in Canada, the Galaxy Nexus is being sold through Bell and Virgin, though I imagine Telus and Rogers should be joining the ICS party at some point too.

[Update]: Verizon has put up the official Galaxy Nexus page as of 1:30PM PST.

Well, Motorola is ready to introduce another generation of Mototablet and they're doing it with the strangely named Droid Xyboard.

Earlier this year, I took a look at the Motorola Xoom and while it was a reasonably solid tablet, it was certainly not without its faults. Well, Motorola is ready to introduce another generation of Mototablet and they’re doing it with the strangely named Droid Xyboard.

From this first look at the tablet, you can tell that the design is quite different. For starters, you get more of a wedged-in corner kind of style, not unlike the design cue that we see in the recently launched Droid Razr. The back has an industrial design that almost reminds me of Getac’s rugged convertible tablet PCs.

While the Droid Xyboard ships with Honeycomb, it will be eligible for Ice Cream Sandwich at some point in the future. We’re being told that two sizes will be available too: 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch, both of which have the same 1280×800 resolution display, dual core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, Verizon 4G LTE, 5MP rear cam, and 1.3MP front cam.

The 16GB version of the 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch Droid Xyboard will retail for $430 and $530, respectively, with a two-year Verizon contract. Both can be bumped to 32GB models, while only the bigger tab will get the 64GB option.

Fayram reports that this is a "cutting edge phone, without the ostenation and outrageous materials of the Droid Razr." Sadly, it is loaded with some Verizon bloatware, including My Verizon Mobile and Verizon Migration Assistant.

We knew it was coming, but it’s nice to see that we’re getting a holiday treat just a little bit earlier than we thought. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the newest official Google phone and the first to rock Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Even though it’s not really supposed to go on sale yet, someone was able to buy one from a local Best Buy store.

His name is David Fayram and he is a senior software engineer at CrowdFlower. He just waltzed into Best Buy, asked for the phone, and bought it from a store employee who sold it to him “by accident.” It’s also said that some other folks have had some luck getting their hands on the Galaxy Nexus ahead of schedule from Verizon stores too.

Fayram reports that this is a “cutting edge phone, without the ostenation and outrageous materials of the Droid Razr.” Sadly, it is loaded with some Verizon bloatware, including My Verizon Mobile and Verizon Migration Assistant. It’s still the “pure” Google experience, I suppose, but bloatware brands the phone beyond that Verizon stamp on the back. To be fair, Canadians can already get the Galaxy Nexus from Bell and Virgin.

A handy guide has been put together that compares both the voice and data plans for the iPhone 4S across AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. You can refer to the chart below for some specifics, because it really depends on your individual needs. Some people might be perfectly happy with 2GB of data, whereas others are willing to pay the premium for 12GB or more.

The biggest number that should stick out from this chart is also the smallest. Of the three, Sprint is the only one that is offering unlimited data and it’s offering it at $10 to boot. Compare this to the $125 you’d be spending each month at AT&T to get 12GB. Data pricing starts at $30 (for 2GB) at Verizon. Not surprisingly, when they calculated out the total cost over the life of a two year contract, the Sprint deal worked out to be the cheapest.

If you can’t wait until tomorrow for the official preorders, it seems that Sprint has gotten a little trigger happy and has started accepting preorders on the iPhone 4 today. Note that’s the iPhone 4 without the S, so it’s probably in your best interest to wait just one more day. You do want Siri, don’t you?

We also have to wonder if the SIM slots in the iPhone 4S world phone sold through CDMA providers will be unlocked right out of the box. I guess we’ll find out in about a week when the iPhone 4S actually gets into our hands on October 14.

In case you haven’t seen the recent TV commercials, the Motorola Droid Bionic finally got an official release date a little while ago and that release date is today. Now we have to ask if the Bionic was really worth the long wait.

Yes, the claim is that the Droid Bionic will “rule all machines” and it is only available at Verizon Wireless, but we also have to realize that this phone was announced way back at CES in January. That’s eight months ago and a lot has changed in those eight months. You want a phone with a dual core 1GHz processor? Yeah, those exist already. You want a phone with LTE? Yeah, that’s out too.

I guess it helps that the Droid Bionic has both dual-core and LTE together in one package. Other specs include the full gig of DDR2 RAM, 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) display, 8MP camera, and HDMI mirror mode. Much like the Atrix, the Droid Bionic will also work with the Motorola LapDock and its 11.6-inch screen, giving you a full Firefox 4.0 browser, keyboard, trackpad, and multi-window capabilities.

The outright price for the Droid Bionic through Verizon is $589.99. Latch onto a two-year commitment with Big Red and that comes down to $299.99. What do you think? Is the Bionic worth the wait?

I see what you did there. Verizon has long had its V CAST service for a variety of multimedia entertainment, but some people have linked V CAST to “feature” phones rather than full-on smartphones. V CAST sounds like something from a few years ago anyway. So Big Red has decided to do a little rebranding by unleashing “Verizon Video” to the Google-fueled masses.

In essence, you are able to watch a bunch of your favorite television shows on your preferred Anroid device, whether that be a smartphone or a tablet. It’s not unlike V CAST Video, except that they’ve upgraded the quality of the video content and expanded the selection. In addition to over 250 full episodes of TV shows, you’ve got local and national news, sports, weather and so on.

The good news is that the Verizon Video Android app is a free download. The bad news, and you knew this was coming, is that the service is not free. You either pay $3 a day or $10 a month to gain access to the video content. This works over your 3G/4G connection and, to make matters worse, the video content you stream does incur data usage that “will be billed according to the customer’s data package.”

Bigger, better, faster than ever, the Motorola Droid X2 is set for a May 26 launch on Verizon Wireless. Pre-orders begin today, so if you were in the market for the Droid successor, wanted a 4.3-inch scratch-resistant, anti-reflective qHD Display packing an 8 MP camera with autofocus, HD Video recording, HDMI, all powered by a dual-core 1 GHZ CPU, this may be for you. The only setback is the outdated Android 2.2 OS, however you’ll be able to upgrade that to 2.3 shortly.

Additional Features:

Powered by Android 2.2, to be updated to Android 2.3

Mirror Mode allows you to view and share your photos, videos and downloaded movies on a larger TV via HDMI output

Enterprise-ready with security and IT-grade policies, allowing you to use your DROID X2 for work and play

Support for Google™ Mobile Services, including Gmail™, YouTube™, Google Talk™, Google Search™ and Google Maps™, as well as access to more than 200,000 apps available to download from Android Market™

Mobile Hotspot capability, allowing you to share your 3G connection with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices

Virtual QWERTY keyboard featuring SWYPE technology for quick and easy typing of messages and emails

For $199 on a two-year contract you can get the Droid X2, it’s also good to know it supports Mobile Hotspots for up to five Wi-Fi devices. This is a good choice for one, but you also can look at the Motorola ATRIX 4G for AT&T, LG G2x for T-Mobile or check out a list of similar smartphones here if Verizon isn’t your cup of tea.
