Developed by Greenpois0n, Absinthe for Windows will work with the iPhone 4S running on iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1, as well as on the iPad 2 running on iOS 5.0.1. As with all the other jailbreak solutions that are out there, you proceed at your own risk and discretion. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before Apple pushes out a software update that breaks this jailbreak too. It’s always been a cat-and-mouse game with these people.

A Jailbreak Dream Team has come together to jailbreak the unjailbreakable A5 Chip iDevices iPad 2 & the iPhone 4S. Pod2g announced on his official blog that the juggernauts of iOS hacking has joined hands to create an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5. The hope is that all 4 of the iOS hackers will combine their will and strength come together as a team and fuzz the Apple box.

This comes only a few days after pod2g announced that he has made great step in A5 Jailbreak & if no more roadblocks rise up the jailbreak could be released in a week. Now that the Dream Team is working along side pod2g we may very see the untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 & iPhone 4S soon!

You might have wondered how it is possible for pod2g to have an untethered 4S device when dev teams still haven’t released tools to achieve this at home.

Wonder no longer, as Pod2g explains it all.

In his own words:

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can’t be released publicly.

It’s the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn’t distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

So in short, due to the need for a developer account the work involved really can’t be distributed without an exploit.

While there are already two jailbreak solutions out there for iOS 5, but they’re both tethered and neither works with A5 iDevices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2). The untethered jailbreaks from Chronic Dev-team and iPhone Dev-team sound like they’re almost ready though. Pod2g of Chronic Dev-team posted a video link last Friday demonstrating an untethered jailbreak. MuscleNerd from iPhone Dev-team tweeted that the “upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches).” The blob allows for the unlock and jailbreak. MuscleNerd seems a little more bent on a way into A5, but it looks like Pod2g want in on that too.

To make matters even better, the newest iPhone software has “wide open main fs,” meaning that it has an “unencrypted ramdisk with the VFDencypt key in plain text.” What does this mean in layman’s terms? “Everybody can decrypt the filesystem with it.” Another in-road. The untethered jailbreak must be right around the corner.

A huge iOS 5 Jailbreak scam went out early this morning hitting dozens of auto reposting news sites across multiple sources offering an “iOS 5 jailbreak” solution. Several hours after the news, many sites pulled it, but PRWeb and some others like the San Francisco Chronicle got duped by their reposting service and are listing the scam.

We have all been itching to jailbreak our iOS 5 devices, and to take our money and run is fraud, plain and simple. The guys at GhostApp blasted out a release about their iOS 5 jailbreak service for any iOS device: the iPhone 4S, iPad 1, and iPhone 4 too. They claim this will provide an untethered jailbreak to any iDevice except for the iPad 2. So in order to protect everyone out there, we shelled out the $25 that the UK company with a US owned domain wanted. They then gave us login details for us to access this so called jailbreak. So we logged in and to our surprise all the links to the iOS 5 jailbreak were inactive. It’s a good front, but not good enough.

The company claimed the untethered jailbreak is based on the i0n1c untethered exploit and it has been tested by GhostApp.org’s MuscleNerd. The fake unlock sites we have identified are unlockiphone-4s.net, how2unlockiphones.com and ghostapp.org. If you find others, please list them in the comments.

“UnlockuriPhone.com makes no express or implied warranties of any kind relating to the provision of information or service on or by this site ” is how one company tries to justify their actions.  We assume they are looking for quick press and then getting the jailbreak info up within the next few days or eventually when it’s released.  That’s at least what it looks like considering the other jailbreak solutions are just how to guides using third party software that really are other people’s work that they are charging for.

There is a distinct difference between a tethered and an untethered jailbreak for iDevices. With the former, you get stuck at the Apple logo every time that you reboot your iPhone or iPad unless you plug it back into a PC. That’s not the case with an untethered jailbreak. So, what exactly is a “semi-tethered” jailbreak then?

Well, it’s somewhere in between. A tethered jailbreak for iOS 5 has been around for some time, but no one has come up with an untethered jailbreak yet. With the semi-tethered jailbreak from Big Boss (you can get full instructions on TheBigBoss.org), you get some of your core functionality back when you reboot the device, even without having to reconnect back to a PC or Mac.

This isn’t quite as good as truly untethered, but it’s a start. When you run out of juice on the road or need to reboot your iDevice for whatever reason, at least you can still make calls and send and receive text messages. The semitethered jailbreak also allows for other stock apps too. While you can’t use mobile Safari, you can use other web browsers like Atomic.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that this iOS 5 semi-tethered jailbreak still doesn’t work with the iPhone 4S.
