Seriously? Are there really going to be random moments over the course of the day where you absolutely must shave your beard? I guess there are some guys out there with wicked four o’clock shadows, but even then, I’m not sure they’d be all that interested in the Carzor.

It’s a razor that’s credit card sized so that you can slip it into your wallet. We hope that the blades of the razor are suitably covered, less you come back with a completely mangled wallet. To make matters even more unique, the Carzor can optionally be scented with mint, sandalwood, lemon, ocean or orange strips. These are supposed to freshen you up.

You might have a fun time trying to explain this to the TSA agent when traveling too. That, and you really don’t want to accidentally pronounce Carzor as karzy either. In any case, it’s $17.

If you’ve ever gone backpacking through another country or continent you’re probably well aware of the constant headache that WiFi searching can be. Wandering around in search of call centres and internet cafes that charge by the minute. Buying overpriced coffee to use café WiFi. Dropping a coin in to pay phones or cheap, grabbing local pay-as-you-go cell phones whenever you want to order a pizza or call a cab. The costs add up – and if time really is money, the inconvenience of it all definitely adds to the equation.

Luckily, for those planning to travel to Japan, E Mobile has effectively killed these two bird with one sleek, metallic-blue stone.

The $235 “Pocket WiFi” combines a mobile WiFi router with an Android smartphone, and with plans starting at about $50 per month, combines and cuts down on a traveller’s communication expenses in a huge way.

Plus, you know what they say: The best camera is the one you’ve got with you. And with a 3.2 Megapixel camera, your photos will be the perfect size to send back to friends and family over a mobile connection.

I’ll be honest when I say it’s a bit out of the average vagabond’s price range. But then again, so is travel in Japan.

I lead a relatively mobile lifestyle, having ditched my last desktop computer years ago in favor of a laptop-only existence. For those of you in the same boat as me, a suitable stand for your notebook is sometimes essential. Keeping the weight low and the style high is the Standivarius Aero. If you’re used to having larg notebook cooling stands with fans humming just to keep the temperature down, the Standivarius Aero maybe a nice alternative. It’s designed to go with you in your notebook bag, and instead of active cooling fans it uses a passive heatsink solution to keep things cool. No matter how slim your Dell Adamo or MacBook Air may be, you can probably find space to fit this compact stand in your bag too. The $56 Standivarius Aero tips the scales at a mere 135 grams and “takes about two seconds to set up.”

Traveling to Europe or within with your four legged friend? Well, European laws are about to require that all cats and dogs traveling to Europe, or within its boundaries, will be required to be microchipped. After July 2011, even if you have your animal tattooed and you have the papers to match, your pet will still be required to have a microchip. This will be Europe’s new standard for identifying all pets traveling by air.

A microchip is about the size of a really long grain of rice, veterinarians implant these chips into all kinds of pets – even reptiles and birds can get microchipped, as well as cats and dogs. The chip carries a unique identifying number that is accessible from a database which shows the pets name, owners name and contact information. AVID, a company among the largest sellers of microchips in the world, claims their microchips reunite as many as 1,400 lost pets each day.

According to a 2007 USDA report on the regulations of pet microchipping, about one quarter of European pets have been chipped, in comparison to the U.S. with only 5 percent, roughly 130 million dogs and cats.

Canadians on the go are probably pretty familiar with what Air Canada has to offer, but we oftentimes can’t be bothered to look up the information on a real computer or print out a paper boarding pass. Addressing these concerns, Air Canada has now released a dedicated iPhone app for passengers and they’re working on a dedicated app for the BlackBerry platform as well.

It’s not quite as versatile as some other travel apps, since it will only work with Air Canada and not with other airlines, but this is still a handy tool for frequent flyers. For starters, you can use this app to keep track of your flights through the “My Flights” section. When you shake the phone, it gives you an updated status. Let’s hope they all stay “on time.”

I always check in for my flights the night before and it’s great to see that Air Canada included this functionality in the iPhone app as well. They already have a mobile-optimized website, but the check-in process has been integrated into the app as well. Check-in, select your seat, and even get an electronic boarding pass.

Yes, an electronic boarding pass. You get a 2D barcode image, along with all the other requisite information, in virtual form on your iPhone. This barcode can be scanned at the airport just like a paper boarding pass.

Other features include finding flights, reading important messages, booking rental cars, and accessing other travel links. The Air Canada iPhone App can be found in the App Store.
