Toshiba's beastly gaming laptop actually arrived back in August, but now the fun is just really getting started thanks to an announcement from Toshiba that its “Otimized for NVIDIA GeForce 3D Support” is ready.

Move over Nintendo’s 3DS, time to make room for Toshiba’s Qosmio F755. Toshiba’s beastly gaming laptop actually unveiled back in late September, but now the fun is just really getting started thanks to an announcement from Toshiba that its “Otimized for NVIDIA GeForce 3D Support” is ready. So what does this mean for gamers? It means a truly glasses-free gaming laptop starting at $1,499.

So how does this technology work exactly? According to Toshiba:

To achieve a 3D viewpoint without the aid of special glasses, the award-winning Qosmio F755 3D laptop uses auto-stereoscopic display technology. Equipped with a brilliant 15.6-inch diagonal 1080p Full HD TruBrite® display2 with Active Lens technology, the double parallax image display is able to project two sets of images at the same time, splitting them between the left and right eyes to create the 3D effect. Toshiba’s intuitive Face Tracking technology then taps into the laptop’s built-in webcam to further perfect the projection of the image by reacting to the motion and position of the viewer, delivering a broad viewing zone from which to view 3D content. The end result for consumers is the ability to view and enjoy real 3D – no glasses needed.

Which translates to me: “I need a new 3D laptop”. The Qosmio goes way beyond just being 3D by packing a massive 17.3-inch screen, a Core i7 processor, GeForce GT 540M graphics, 8GB of RAM, and a Blu-ray burner for starters.

Although it isn’t exactly ‘cheap’, I really think it’s set at a rather attractive price for so many features. Not to mention it is a very sleek, and sexy machine as well.

CES officially kicks off tomorrow, but there’s no lack of news coming out of the desert at all. Toshiba has their new Excite X10 tablet (Regza over seas) which is now claiming the title of “the world’s thinnest 10-inch tablet,” impressive.

As you might not have forgotten, the company’s last 10-inch tablet was the Thrive. That tablet was definitely not a head turner when considering its design. But the Excite X10 is beautifully designed.

The Android-powered Excite X10, which features a TI OMAP 4420 1.2GHz dual-core processor along with 1GB of RAM, is 7.7 mm thin. That’s over 1mm less than the Apple iPad 2 which measures in at 8.8 mm. And the X10 weighs only 1.2 pounds, 11% less than the Apple tablet. It’s thin alright, but we can’t say for sure about how long it will retain its title, as the iPad 3 will arrive sometime in the not so distant future, among other Android slates destined to be unveiled this week as well.

A high-quality magnesium alloy surface on the back of the Excite X10 makes it durable and light. If you believe in their marketing, the so called “scratch-resistant” Corning Gorilla Glass comes equipped with it, alongside an anti-smudge coating that is supposed to help a lot. But we’ll have to see once a production model is actually released.

The display has a resolution of 1280 x 800, a 5.0MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, and a 2.0MP front-facing shooter to satisfy all your video chatting needs. The physical buttons have been beautifully crafted on the sides and are almost invisible. With this slate, you will have access to micro USB, mini HDMI out, and micro SD card slot.

Toshiba is saying we’ll see a mid Q1 release with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, or a bit later with Ice Cream Sandwich. A little bit of waiting won’t kill anyone and also by that time we will have a lot of tablets to choose from.

They have included very little of their own software which includes the DLNA compatible Toshiba Media Player, their File Manager, Netflix, and QuickOffice, so you can expect a relatively unmodified Android experience.

The 16GB Excite X10 will retail for $529.99 and the 32GB model for $599.99, not bad for the thinnest 10-inch tablet in the world. And yeah, that Regza brand name won’t be there on US units.

[Source]

Toshiba has already displayed their 4-inch 367 ppi resolution LCD earlier this year, and now has return to prove to us that they managed to outbuild themselves again.

The new 6.1-inch display for what we assume are tablets, comes with an impressive 498 ppi, an equivalent of a resolution of <del datetime="2011-10-22T15:26:32+00:00">5,560 </del> 2,560 x 1,600. They said that this display will show “photo-realistic” images and we must agree that the specs are quite impressive.

It boasts a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, has 16.7 million colors and 61 percent coverage of the NTSC color gamut. The display also sports a viewing angle of 176 degrees both horizontally and vertically.

Toshiba has even suggested that the display could be used to glasses-free 3D through cutting the resolution in half. Even so, their display would still be better than other comparable screens. However, now that they have created the hype, they have refused to say when the display would actually be used on a device.

No, it’s not your favorite sushi or tempura but some sassy gadgets that will surely make your mouth water as well. The AT 200 is not the only tablet the company is planning to launch when it announced the latest addition to its Thrive Tablet collection—the Thrive 7” Tablet.

As the name suggests, the Thrive 7” Tablet is a 7-inch version of the original which runs on Tegra 2 and possesses a 5 MP and a 2MP cameras, with the rear camera having an LED flash. It also provides a micro-HDMI and mini-USB sockets, docking connector, headphone jack and a micro-SD slot. It is also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS capable.

The Thrive 7” runs on Android 3.2 and will be rolled out in 16GB and 32GB versions to delight the customers. A Toshiba representative said that the starting price of this new gadget is “less than $400”, and so better prepare this amount if you want to avail of the Thrive 7”.

Some experts were impressed by the Thrive 7” tablet’s 1280 x 800 display which appeared crisp and vivid. The screen also responded very fast on the taps and swipes done by the testers. They said that they are also looking forward to testing Swype on the new Thrive item in the future.

Thrive 7” Tablet will be out in the market on November 2011, so just sit back and relax.

We've been hearing about the Mango update to Windows Phone 7 for a very long time, but we had yet to see any kind of official release. That has now changed, because the first Mango phone has been officially unveiled. It's the Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T. That's the good news.

We’ve been hearing about the Mango update to Windows Phone 7 for a very long time, but we had yet to see any kind of official release. That has now changed, because the first Mango phone has been officially unveiled. It’s the Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T. That’s the good news.

The bad news, at least for people around these parts, is that the IS12T is destined solely for Japanese carriers (KDDI and Okinawa Cellular) in September. We don’t see many (if any) Fujitsu or Toshiba handsets in North America, so it should really come as no surprise that’s not being sent over to Rogers or Verizon. Even so, this means that Mango is finally going live this fall.

In terms of the phone itself, the Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T comes with a water and dustproof design, along with 32GB of space, 13.2MP camera, and 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. As a quick reminder, the Mango update for WP7 is said to bring 500 (!) new features, including multitasking, Groups, voice-to-text, and so on. It was unveiled way back in May, but should be hitting other manufacturers soon. The first Nokia WP7 phone, for instance, is being rumored for October.

Initial words from Toshiba were that the Japan exclusive Regza AT300 tablet AT300/23C was supposed to be released this month with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Unfortunately, according to the latest news, Toshiba has cancelled that model in favor of an Android 3.1 inclusive AT300/24C model. The new Toshiba Regza AT300/24C is set to launch in Japan in July.

While Toshiba’s late change of plans might be frowned upon, Google’s update on the Android software might just make it worthwhile. The Android 3.1 Honeycomb has both increased performance as well as added new features. For example, Android 3.1 tablets with USB ports will offer support for USB connected joysticks and game-pads, possibly attracting more users who are interested in gaming with their tablet. Also, Android 3.1 added Google Movie access for renting new and old movies, buy-bye Netflix.

Unfortunately, except for the update in Android software versions, the Regza AT300/24C is the same as the AT300/23C. The two tablets both feature 10.1-inch 1280 × 800 capacitive touchscreens, dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processing chips, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage, not to mention the fact that the Japan exclusive Regza tablets are similar to the global Toshiba Thrive tablets which should still ship this July.

The trouble with pretty much every screen technology out there right now is that it’s rigid. It doesn’t matter if you go for LCD or AMOLED; the screen has to be stiff. Well, we’re getting that much closer to true commercial viability of flexible displays thanks to a recent prototype from Toshiba.

The Toshiba flexible OLED display is three-inches in size and, like other flexible displays we’ve seen, it can flex and curve while retaining decent image quality. It helps that they’ve kept the display at just 0.1mm of thickness and a mere 1 gram of weight. They achieved this by attaching an oxide semiconductor TFT to a plastic substrate rather than a glass one, reducing weight by about 90%.

From what we can see, these flexible displays are only “flexible” at the moment, but as Toshiba works on making larger and slimmer versions of this tech, we could be seeing a whole new kind of product. We’re hearing that Toshiba aims for a “roll-up” tablet or some other sort of handheld by the year 2014 or 2015.

Personally, I’d be pretty happy with a display that rolls around my sleeve or something… and it has to be a touchscreen. We all love touchscreens.

Challenging other waterproof competitors like the Kodak PlaySport is the new Toshiba Camileo BW10.

Not surprisingly, this pocket camcorder comes in a somewhat ruggedized and rubberized housing to go along with its waterproof claims. You won’t be going deep sea diving with this, though, as the 6.5 feet depth limit is likely more in tune with snorkeling at best. If you want to go deeper, they’ve got more expensive models.

Unlike any of the Flip camcorders to ever hit the market, the Toshiba Camileo BW10 shoots video at up to 1080p and it’ll also take five-megapixel stills in a pinch. Wrapping up the spec sheet are the SD card slot, USB port (no swing out connector here!), and HDMI output.

Pick it up in a sporty yellow (I’m reminded of the old Sony Sports Walkman) or sexy silver for $150, minus a $20 instant rebate via Toshiba’s official site.

The tablet market is really starting to heat up and the competitors are beginning to fling mud at one another. Toshiba, for example, is prepping an Android 3.0 device for this spring and it’s taking a direct shot at the iOwners in the audience.

Toshiba has set up a teaser site for its upcoming (yet unnamed) Android tablet we heard about earlier this month, but you can’t access it on your iPhone or iPad. If you do, you’ll get treated to a page that reads:

Such a Shame. Add this to the list of the interesting places on the internet you can’t see on your device. Of course, if you had a Toshiba Tablet you would enjoy the entire internet. Yep, Flash sites too.

Like all the other Android tablets that appeared at CES, the Toshiba variant will support Flash content from around the web. If that’s its only selling point, though, it won’t really differentiate itself from the rest of the Android-powered crowd.

From what we hear, the Toshiba tablet will be powered by the now standard NVIDIA Tegra2 dual core processor, Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and a 1280×800 10-inch capacitive touchscreen. Rounding out the specs are a 5MP camera in the back, a 2MP in the front for video calls, HDMI out, USB in and out, an SD slot, and user-replaceable battery. Wow, now there’s something new. No 3G/4G, but there’s WiFi and Bluetooth.

I don’t anticipate Toshiba’s entry to be a huge competitor in this market, just like how Toshiba MP3 players didn’t exactly make a huge splash, but all these Android folks will certainly present a formidable front against the iPad.
