Looking for a tethered solution for iOS 6 and iOS 6.0.1 devices? While there are already a few different methods for getting this down, Sn0wbreeze for Windows has now been updated to 2.9.7 and added the ability to work with pre-A5 devices running the latest versions of Apple’s mobile OS.

The instructions are provided by the iDownLoad Blog and are pretty straightforward. Best of all it includes Cydia support. The full instructions and download are available here.

So should you go with an untethered solution or not? Here are the main pros and cons of running a tethered solution:

Pros

You have full access to Cydia and other options that you can only get with a Jailbreak

The full need to restart and boot from tether doesn’t occur for most users.

Cons

A tethered jailbreak means you have to connect to a computer to boot your device up. If you don’t have a PC around when you need to tether, your iDevice will essentially be useless until you can get to your PC.

Not all Jailbreak apps even work with iOS 6 yet… so it might be wiser to either wait to jailbreak or stick with iOS 5 for the moment.

We aren’t going to tell you not to tether, but ultimately if you are new to the jailbreaking seen and/or won’t always have a PC within easy access– you might be better waiting off. An untethered solution doesn’t require the same level of skill since you don’t have to tether and “just works” without the extra hassle.

Do you have a jailbroken iOS 6 tethered device? Do you mind booting from PC or is it relatively a non-issue for you?

There is a distinct difference between a tethered and an untethered jailbreak for iDevices. With the former, you get stuck at the Apple logo every time that you reboot your iPhone or iPad unless you plug it back into a PC. That’s not the case with an untethered jailbreak. So, what exactly is a “semi-tethered” jailbreak then?

Well, it’s somewhere in between. A tethered jailbreak for iOS 5 has been around for some time, but no one has come up with an untethered jailbreak yet. With the semi-tethered jailbreak from Big Boss (you can get full instructions on TheBigBoss.org), you get some of your core functionality back when you reboot the device, even without having to reconnect back to a PC or Mac.

This isn’t quite as good as truly untethered, but it’s a start. When you run out of juice on the road or need to reboot your iDevice for whatever reason, at least you can still make calls and send and receive text messages. The semitethered jailbreak also allows for other stock apps too. While you can’t use mobile Safari, you can use other web browsers like Atomic.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that this iOS 5 semi-tethered jailbreak still doesn’t work with the iPhone 4S.
