Handful of Symbian UI updates coming to Nokia smartphones next year

As I’m sure you’ve already noticed, Nokia has been steadily losing its smartphone market share to alternatives like Android phones and the Apple iPhone. In an effort to get your attention back, the Finnish giant is prepping for a very big 2011. They’re not moving to the Android side, but they are working on “four or five” updates to the Symbian UI. Dual core phones are on the way too.

Gartner says Symbian’s days are numbered

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. No matter how popular the iPhone and iOS have become, its market share still pales in comparison to Nokia and the Symbian OS. However, things aren’t all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows in Symbian land.

According to Gartner analyst Nick Jones, Symbian has been surpassed by its primary competitors. The Symbian platform may still be the world’s most widely used mobile OS, but it has fallen behind iOS and Android (as well as BlackBerry for that matter).

Nokia N8 smartphone boasts 12MP camera, HD video

Nokia today officially unveilled the N8 smartphone. Whereas most other phones take on a typical black, white, or silver appearance, the Nokia N8 comes in a range of different colors. In fact, with the 12-megapixel shooter out the back and HDMI output on the side, the Nokia N8 almost looks like a fashion-conscious compact camera. Look for it in hues like blue, orange, and pale green. Me? I’m boring. I’ll stick with black.
