There are already a great variety of multitools out there to choose from. And we love Gerber. But, apart from allowing you to unscrew something or pull a thorn out of your thumb, the Gerber Tripod Multitool has got the rest beat; acting as a tripod for your smartphone or compact digital camera. The product, which we saw last year, is now finally shipping.

The mini tripod for your smartphone or digicam holds a maximum weight of 340 grams. It comes with two legs which fold out in the front, and its base will act as the third leg. You will find a standard-size screw mount on the top. You can also play with wire cutters, a bottle opener (everybody’s favorite), a fine edge blade, screwdrivers, but not all at once of course.

So for $59.99, taking that group shot of you and your fellow travellers in the middle of nowhere won’t certainly be a big challenge for you, and all the other tools will make survival that much easier. But if photography is never going to be a hobby for you, you can stick to a Swiss Army knife.

Gerber Tripod Multitool components:

Tripod functionality

Standard 1/4-20 Camera Mount Screw

Suction Cell phone attachment

Fine edge blade

Serrated blade

Micro flat, square cross, and medium flat screwdrivers

For many people, a USB flash drive is like any other USB flash drive. Then there are people who want something that can more easily blend in with the rest of their gear, like a Swiss Army knife. That’s where the Victorinox Slim and Slim Duo drives come into place, but what about when you’re about to hitch a flight across the country?

Both the Slim and the Slim Duo are designed to be like real Swiss Army knives. In addition to the swing out flash drive you also get regular pocket knife things like scissors and a nail file. That’s not going to fly (terrible pun intended) with the guys and gals at the TSA, so how do you hang on to your docs without losing the cool of a Swiss Army flash drive?

Well, Victorinox is offering “flight friendly versions” of these drives too. The assumption is that these variants will offer the same kind of look, but they’ll lack in the sharp object department. Yeah, not as cool, even if you get to pick from red, blue, orange pink, green and silver.

In any case, the “advanced USB flash drives” of the Slim and Slim Duo variety will come in capacities as big as 128GB. That should be enough to store all the documents required for your, um, upcoming plot to overthrow the government.
