Although there are big obstacles ahead of them, Hyundai has big hopes for the future and has announced that they will start mass production of cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The company will begin building a hydrogen-powered Tucson ix SUVs at the company’s Ulsan plant in South Korea and their current aim is to sell 1000 of those zero-emission vehicles around the world by 2015. The immediate plan is that 15 of the new models will head to Denmark and two units to Sweden this April for municipal use.

Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Kim Eok-jo said, “We expect to realize an environmentally friendly era more quickly through the mass production of hydrogen fuel cell cars for the first time in the world“.

A hydrogen-powered vehicle is certainly good for the environment as it emits only water vapor after hydrogen is converted into electricity.

As for the performance of the vehicle, Bloomberg says that it lags behind its gasoline-powered rivals but gives a smooth driving experience. It produces 134 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60mph in just over 12 seconds. Hyundai says that the car can go for about 370 miles before there is a need for refuelling.

But refuelling is one of the problems as there is a scarcity of fuelling stations. Reports suggest that there are only 13 stations across South Korea, but more stations are also being planned. Another major problem is the production cost, with estimates suggesting a price tag of $200,000. In comparison, the standard Tucson costs $19,935. But the company is promising that the price can be lowered to around $50,000 by 2015 after the tech improves.

If all the problems are taken care of, finally we can take an eco friendly route by not relying too much on internal combustion engines. What do you think?

You may have been to a science exhibit where they have a stationary bicycle connected to a lightbulb. You pedal harder and the light gets brighter. What if you just want to relax, but you still wanted to generate some electricity? That’s exactly what you do with the iRock Rocking Chair, which is designed to work with the Apple iPad.

The idea here is actually brilliant in its simplicity. As you rock back and forth in the rocking chair, it generates power that is then sent to the iPad docked in the right side arm. The current design uses the 30-pin dock connector, but there’s no reason why this couldn’t be altered to support other devices or possibly even the new Lightning connector for the iPad Mini or iPad 4. They say that an hour of rocking will give back 35% battery capacity to a third-gen iPad.

But the power generated isn’t just for the iPad. Located in the headrest portion are a couple of stereo speakers that can also get the juice generated from your rocking motion. This creates an all-encompassing iExperience for watching movies or listening to music. The iRock is a high quality rocking chair too, handmade from Swedish oak with five layers of paint.

Of course, all this style and power doesn’t come cheap. Micasa Lab of Zurich says that the iRock Rocking Chair will retail for about 1,300 Euro ($1,685 US) when it ships in late 2013.

That's because they have converted a grounded Boeing 747 into the world's first "Jumbo Hostel."

Maybe the Holiday Inn isn’t for you. Maybe you’re inclined to say nada to Ramada. You want a unique layover experience and that may include staying at a hotel you may not have imagined existed. The next time you happen to be out in Stockholm, you can sleep inside of a jumbo jet. That’s because they have converted a grounded Boeing 747 into the world’s first “Jumbo Hostel.”

Sure, there are other parts of the world where you might be able to stay in an ice hotel or even a barge that’s been converted into a tourist attraction, but sleeping in a plane after flying there on a plane has got to be pretty different. Easily the most interesting room is the Cockpit Suite, which really is the cockpit of the 747 converted into a hotel room.

This can be found at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm and the Boeing 747 was grounded there in November 2002. In addition to the Cockpit Suite, there is the Jumbo Single ensuite room for the business traveler and the Double “Black Box Suite” for small families. It is a hostel, though, so there are dorm-style rooms too if you want to meet some new people. Prices start at $62 for dorm beds and ramp up to $515 for the Cockpit Suite.
