The iPhone 5 might be a gorgeous smartphone but it has a pretty big flaw: its casing material attracts scratches and scuffs rather easily. While it seems like a shame to hide your phone away in a case, there are some pretty cool choices out there that can still make the iPhone 5 stand out in the crowd. One of these is the new Speck limited edition Halloween case.

Just in time for the candy-filled holiday, the Speck Halloween case aren’t scary or spooky, but they have a simple design with a few of the traditional blanket-style ghosts on it. The case could probably best be described as festive and “cute”. Of course buying a case just for a holiday that comes and goes quickly might not be for everyone, but they aren’t all that pricey either– at $35 each.

The Speck’s website carries the case in a version for the iPhone 5 or one for the 4 and 4S. What do you think, interested or not?

Speck, makers of the ever-popular CandyShell iPhone case, has released two new models with two new innovations: You can choose either the CandyShell View, which holds your iPhone 4 in a convenient position for viewing photos, using FaceTime or watching videos; or the CandyShell Card, which adds a new level of horror to losing your phone by doubling as a wallet for ID and credit cards. Both at $40 a pop.

Though both will add a bit of width to your ‘thinnest smartphone in the world,’ they definitely seem to be worth it. In the back of the View, there’s a spring-loaded kickstand that pulls out from its almost entirely concealed position. Good for both landscape and portrait views, the stand remains in place until you decide to release it back into the back of the case.

Paired with a bluetooth keyboard and maybe Google Docs, I could see this case as being a real lifesaver in laptop-emergency situations – or when you just don’t feel like schlepping your whole notebook across town, but want to hammer out a few emails between appointments.

The CandyShell Card seems equally innovative, but I just can’t get past the trepidation I would undoubtedly feel carrying all of my valuables in the same misplaceable/snatchable little case. Losing EITHER your phone OR your wallet is bad enough.

And even if you do have “Find My Phone,” I doubt your American Express will still be inside when you find it.

Speck CandyShell and Fitted Hard Shell Cases for iPad

Speck is keeping us covered again, this time with the release of several new solutions for your new Apple iPad’s.  There are three new products to keep your iPad safe and secure, available immediately from Apple.com and Apple Stores, the Speck PixelShield Sleeve is a durable screen protection layer for the iPad.  It’s soft, and lets you away your iPad in a scratch-free micro-fleece lined carrying case, available in red and black for $40.

The PixelSleeve Plus is extra-durable and has a neoprene exterior, has a carrying handle too, and is carried in landscape style rather than portrait like thePixelSleeve. Price is also $40 and comes in black with gray lining.

Speck also has an anti-glare matte finish coating that covers your screen. The ShieldView is supposed to cut down on reflections and improves visibility and clarity. I wish they would have these for every anti-glare screen.  At $25 its not a bad deal to protect that beautiful display.

Up and coming are the CandyShell hard fitted shell case for the iPad, it will sell for $50 and SeeThru hard shell cases in Satin as well for $50 in Black, Blue and Purple. PixelSkin is a rubbery grip type of case for theiPad, it will sell for $40 and come in black, green and purple.  Expect these mid-April.

It’s not often I get excited about a cellphone cases, but after taking a look at Speck’s latest offering, it’s almost got me wanting an iPhone.   Four new artistic cases have been added to the iPhone 3G and 3GS line of Artsprojekt cases, the designs were created by artists of the community and are among the most stylish graphics you will see wrapped around an Apple product.  Priced at about $40 each, exclusive to the Apple Store, they are printed on soft but durable frabric infused on Speck’s “road-tested snap-together” hard shells.
