The Crawler Transporter from NASA is used to transport such useful bits as the $1.7 billion Space Shuttle. That said, it tops out at two miles per hour… when it’s unloaded. Plop the Space Shuttle on there and you’re blazing along at one mile an hour.
The United Space Alliance, NASA’s lead shuttle operating contractor, is bidding on the prospect of continuing on a commercial basis after 2013.
