HTC’s move from AMOLED to SLCD may just be a good idea

HTC SLCD

You may have heard that HTC is moving away from AMOLED displays and toward the Sony-made Super LCD panels for its smartphones. It's a supply issue, apparently, but should you as the end consumer be concerned about this move? Apparently not. Yes, the AMOLED display on the HTC Legend looks positively brilliant, but this most recent video is showing that the Super LCD isn't really that far off.

Cassette tapes get buried too with Sony boom box

Sony

It's not enough for Sony to kill off the floppy disk today. The Japanese manufacturer is also bidding adieu to another legendary format: the cassette tape. What you see here is the last cassette-playing boom box ever. Well, at least from Sony. In this day and age where most of us don't even bother with physical media anymore, preferring to download our music digitally, the cassette tape feels decidedly dated.

RIP the floppy disk: Sony finally kills legendary format

rip-floppy

I remember when I was able to store just about every document that I ever wanted on a single 1.44MB floppy disk. That was a very long time ago and I don't know anyone who still uses the format. Well, Sony seems to think so too, because it just killed the floppy disk. Other manufacturers have long since abandoned the file saving format, but Sony stuck around and kept making new disks... until now. This marks the official death of the floppy disk at the ripe old age of 30.

PlayStation motion controller takes a stab at Sony couch potatoes

PlayStation Move Joysticks

The Wii was just a tad more innovative than the PS3 and XBox 360 with the introduction of the Wii Remote.Sony has now announced a three dish buffet for it’s motion controller called the PlayStation Move, a standalone Move controller, or a package with the PlayStation Eye + Move + a game, or an entire console. Couch potatoes are warned: gone are the days of button mashing and exercising your wrists and fingers only. Where the PlayStation Move stands apart from the Wii is its fewer buttons and no cable!

In a market long dominated by BlackBerries, iPhones, and Androids, Sony could pose a legitimate threat.A new Sony smartphone could have the ability to play games from Sony’s home and portable consoles by downloading them directly onto the device from Sony's network.
