Artificial Leaf Could Power Home on 1 Gallon of Water a Day

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created the first feasible artificial leaf. While the leaf doesn’t look anything like its plant inspiration, it works in a similar way. The leaf is a solar cell the size of a poker card, and it mimics the process of photosynthesis by using water and sunlight converting it into energy. In this case the energy is electricity.

Voltaic’s new standalone mobile solar chargers generate 4 watts

Voltaic has just released the Amp, Fuse and Switch, standalone chargers with solar panels that can produce up to 4 Watts of Power. With 4-5 hours of sun, or a day at the beach, their Lithium Polymer batteries can be fully powered and then used at anytime to charge a handheld device.

I’m not particularly keen on the flashy white strap of this solar harness, but the idea is fantastic and anything leaning towards sustainability gets a thumbs up in my books. The Solar Camera Strap is a concept developed by designer Weng Jie. It capitalizes on the need for a sturdy camera strap for photographers, while trickling you power as well.

Who says being green is for hippies anymore! Casio is the latest company to jump on the money train and “green-wash” its products with the introduction of the Pathfinder PRG110C-3.

In addition to telling you how late you are for work, the watch sports an altimeter, barometer, thermometer and digital compass if you should ever find yourself flying an airplane and all the instruments suddenly fail.
