Part of the reason why NFC hasn’t quite taken off in the mainstream is that the average consumer may not have an NFC-enabled smartphone. The SIMply NFC-Revolution fixes that by offering a SIM card that has the whole NFC business built into it.

A joint effort between Morpho and INSIDE Secure, the SIMply NFC-Revolution product uses INSIDE’s NFC chip technology and shoves it into Morpho’s SIM technology. The net result is an integrated product that can effectively give any SIM-touting phone the ability to do all the NFC things that we want to be able to do.

We’ve seen other retrofit solutions, like those that involve putting a sticker on the back of the phone, but this looks way cleaner and way more convenient. All we need is for the major carriers to adopt this NFC-happy SIM card and we’ll be ready to go.

Apple might be a bit busy preparing for the official launch of their next generation iPad and iOS 5.1. But it appears like they will have to find more time to fix a new bug in iOS 5.0.1 which allows a person to get unauthorized access to the contacts and the calling features of an iPhone.

The details on the new issue comes courtesy of iPhoneislam, who believe that it is a “major” flaw. But after watching the video, you will most probably agree with us on the fact that the passcode bypassing allowed by this bug is quite difficult to pull off.

The hack involves inserting and ejecting the iPhone’s SIM card, while you try to call the device. If you perform this for long enough, you will eventually get access to the phone app, and you will be able to make calls as well. But for the hack to work, it is required that you know the victim’s phone number (or have a spare SIM card) and a strong belief that it can be done.

It appears to be a very minor bug, but still, it won’t be very nice if someone who stole your iPhone gets free access to your contacts. Apple will most likely release a fix for it along with the upcoming iOS 5.1. In the meantime, you can check out the guy sweating it out in the video below.

Many enthusiasts out there have already taken their scissors to regular-sized SIM cards, trimming them down to micro SIM proportions for use with the iPad. The question is, how do you add that material back?

As it turns out, a company saw the business opportunity and capitalized on it with the $10 microSIM card adapter. It does exactly what you think it does.

Plunk in your newly sized micro SIM card into this adapter and, voila, it looks like a regular SIM card again. This way, you can effectively use the same SIM card for your iPad and for your iPhone… just not at the same time. It does mean that you can save by only having one wireless data plan though.

So, you know about the Wind Mobile phones and you know about their monthly plans, but that’s not enough to entice you into their fold? Well, Wind Mobile is working even harder to attract new customers, because it sounds like they are giving away free SIM cards to boot.

Just like any other GSM carrier, you can bring your unlocked GSM phone over to Wind and get your service that way, but you normally have to purchase a SIM card. As best as I can recall, Rogers and Fido charge about $35 for a new SIM card. Wind is offering them for free.

If you go to the FAQ section on the website, it says that “you can now get a SIM card and service from WIND without buying a WIND phone.” Going through the steps, it also says that there is “no charge for the WIND SIM card, you just need to buy WIND plan – any plan.”

Yippee! Moving over to the Wind Mobile seems like a pretty straightforward process. Assuming that they have the number portability thing ready to go, you can make the leap from Telus, Bell, Rogers, or whoever at your favorite corporate Wind store (or Blockbuster kiosk).
