With the new Android Market screenshots floating about, it’s hard not to wan’t to get in on some of that action. You can wait for Google to set you up over the next two weeks.  Or if you’ve already rooted your device and are running 2.2 or above then Android Market version 2.2.6 is just within reach. Of course rooting will void any warranty from the manufacturer and carrier, but if you’ve already done that then there wont be much stopping you.

The updated Android Market will have upgraded ratings, new categories, an improved UI and a layout to easily distinguish between featured apps and standard apps, more accurate suggestions to find similar apps to ones you have previously installed, and of course, easier to check for updates.

Some categories will be changed, just go to  My Apps to see what you have installed and if they have pending updates instead of the previously named Downloads.   Google says the update will be rolled out seamlessly, so there will be nothing to download and you will just be in the new Android Market once it’s available to you.

How to get the Android Market on a rooted Android 2.2+ device:

1. Get the com.android.vending_2.2.6.apk and put it on the root of your SD Card.
2. Download and install Root Explorer. You will have to give it root permission.
3. Navigate to /system/app and find find “Vending.apk”, tap it and hold the “Rename” menu appears. Add “.bak” to the end of the file name to make it Vending.apk.bak
4. Reboot your Android device. Once your back up use Root Explorer to get to the root of your SD Card. Then find com.vending_2.2.6.apk and run it.
5. Reboot again for safe measure, and you’re done.
