Say Hello to the New Apple iPad

As the invite let us know, today was the big day. Apple hosted a special event in San Francisco this morning to unveil the new iPad to the world. Interestingly enough, it is not the iPad 2S, the iPad HD, or even the iPad 3 that we had expected. It’s simply the new iPad. I guess they’ve decided to take the iPod approach to product names moving forward, rather than the iPhone style of naming models.

As you might remember, the original iPad and the iPad 2 debuted at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center. It is worth noting that the hall is free for the newly rumored date. Apple might have already booked it and could be keeping silent for now, just to enjoy the misery that we all go through thinking about the next generation iPad. And also March 7th is a Wednesday, a day that Apple is very fond of.

Today’s iPad 3 Rumors

The latest rumor on the much anticipated device has come from iLounge’s Jeremy Horwitz. This isn’t as much of a real discovery – like the iPhone 5 having a quad-core A6 – but more along the lines of what someone “thinks” could happen. Horwitz believes that the next iPad will come equipped with better cameras, not much of a shocker there since every Apple device that follows its predecessor has a better camera.

These days it’s fairly common to find notebooks with 1366×768 resolution displays, even if they happen to be 15-inch screens. That’s the same with this first generation of Ultrabooks from companies like Asus and Acer. However, the Ivy Bridge-powered ultrabooks next year could make a quantum leap beyond full HD.

Apple gears up for an early 2012 launch of iPad 3 tablet

Apparently, Apple has started to order some of the key components from suppliers in Asia for development and production of the iPad3. These include sourcing parts like the chips and display panels. With an “early 2012″ release window rumored, the iPad 3 will reportedly get quadruple the resolution of the current iPad 2, bumping up to 2048×1536.

Retina display coming to iPad 2 Plus before year’s end?

It’s not quite an iPad 3, and probably won’t be rocking some sort of quad-core A6 processor, but the so-called “iPad 2 Plus” could be hitting an Apple Store shelf near you before the end of this year. That is, if analyst Craig Berger of FBR Capital Markets is to be believed.
