Apple has a habit of selling you on the experience and not really letting you get a full look at the spec sheet. That hasn’t stopped some intrepid adventurers from ripping the new iPad apart to find out what guts it really has inside.

We already know about the new Retina display and its impressive 2048×1536 resolution. We already know about that A5X SoC and its quad-core graphics capabilities. But what about the RAM? The teardown has confirmed what we had pretty much expected: there is 1GB in there. This is double the 512MB that we find in the iPad 2. That should give a pretty good performance boost.

For the record, both cores of the A5X CPU are clocked at 1GHz. That’s not quite as fast as many of the processors on Android phones, but you have to remember that this is a different beast altogether and the lower (more efficient) clock speed could help a lot with battery life, even if the battery has gotten a fair bit bigger too.

So, what do you think? Have you decided to pick up the new iPad? Are you reading this while camped outside your local Apple Store, anxiously awaiting today’s launch? Stores open at 8:00AM local for anxious soon-to-be tablet holders.

Samsung is expected to come out with a lot of exciting products at MWC 2012. But their newly unveiled Galaxy Beam handset might not impress you when it comes to the specs, although it has one trick up its sleeve. The device features a built-in pico projector.

The new device is an updated version of Samsung’s Galaxy Beam which was shown off at the Mobile World Congress in 2010. And in case you are pondering, Samsung is not the only company which has dived into the idea of a projector in a phone. Have you heard about the LG eXpo projector phone?

The original Galaxy Beam was only slated for Singapore and it came with Android v2.1, a 3.7-inch screen, and a 9 lumens projector. The updated version runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 4-inch 480×800 TFT display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal memory (there’s a microSD slot for cards of up to 32GB), a 5MP rear shooter, a 1.3MP front camera and a 2000mAh battery.

That’s no HTC One X, but those who are buying this device will be looking forward to playing with its 15 lumens projector. Although that is not enough to blind anyone, it is more than enough for projecting pictures, videos, and other media onto flat surfaces. And, according to Samsung, it can display images up to 50-inches wide.

Unfortunately, we haven’t got any hints regarding the price tag and availability of the Beam. We will keep you updated. The Beam is expected to be launched in a number of countries.

And yeah, almost forgot. According to the device’s landing page, the handset has 6GB of RAM. That’s most probably a typo, but maybe not, since it could take some serious memory to power a projector.

CES is just around the corner and as expected, we are seeing a flood of announcements and teasers about what’s going to be showcased at the event. Sony Ericsson’s pre-CES teaser campaign started earlier with their messages on their Facebook and Google pages. Now the company has released yet another teaser, a few close-ups of an HD-capable smartphone.

“Just a few more days until we can reveal some interesting news” says Sony Ericsson, but no hints regarding the identity of the device or what’s under the hood.

As you can see in the above image, the mysterious device has a dedicated shutter button, an HD-capable camera, a micro-USB port and the onscreen toggle to switch between photos and videos with a simple touch.

The images suggest that the new device is similar in outward appearance to the XPERIA Arc S handset. The Arc S has the same curved camera key, HD labeling and squared-off microUSB port.

We are most probably looking at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD, previously also known by the name Xperia Nozomi.

The camera-related hints suggest that the new device might be coming equipped with something special for all the shutterbugs out there. We are expecting a 12 to 13 MP camera with an Exmor R CMOS sensor.

And if it is capable of recording 1080p HD video, you can surely expect high-end specs. Rumors point towards a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM along with a 4.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720. Hopefully the device will be powered by ICS.

Whatever is coming, we definitely won’t have to wait too long to learn everything about it. Stay tuned to this space for updates.

Although there are many military-grade laptops out there to choose from, it is still a bit difficult to find a good rugged machine for all the young users in schools. Lenovo has churned out tough devices earlier, but this is the first time that they are introducing a classroom-ready rugged laptop under the ThinkPad brand name.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X130e, which will be sold to schools in December with a price tag starting at $469, is coming with specific improvements which will help it to withstand the occasional fall or the abuse a notebook is likely to suffer in the hands of the students.

As you might not have forgotten, the X130e was earlier assumed to be the successor to the X120e when leaked pictures of the device started appearing on the internet. Now, the device has become official.

The 11.6 inch X130e, which will be available with an Intel Core i3-2367M processor or AMD Fusion E-300 or E-450 APU, comes equipped with a rubber bumper on the top cover, a thicker bezel, strong corners and hinges, and reinforced and recessed ports.

You will get up to 8GB of RAM and 500GB in storage, Bluetooth 3.0, and it will be powered by a 6-cell battery which is coming with a battery life of 8.5 hours.

Other features include 3 USB 2.0 sockets, HDMI, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, a combined headphone / mic port, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader. The laptop also comes with the company’s RapidBoot technology, which is expected to provide a sub-20-second start-up time.

The downside is that all durable features in the new ThinkPad has resulted in a machine weighing in at 3.9 pounds (1.78kg), fairly heavy for an 11-incher (although Lenovo says it is “lightweight”).
