Newly leaked images are showing a handset which is said to be the rumored Nokia 41-megapixel “EOS” Windows Phone. But it could be an upcoming 20MP phone from the company.

The post Nokia 20 Megapixel PureView Windows Phone Coming Soon? appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

Nokia’s 41-megapixel 808 certainly turned a lot of heads, especially those of all the shutterbugs out there. But only if it came with Windows Phone, right? Well, Nokia is said to be having plans to introduce a WP device (“EOS”) with the same camera sensor as the 808 and with their famous PureView technology, and that device could be the one seen above.

As you can see, the device has a pretty giant bulge on its back. Of course those who like to click a lot of pictures with their phone wherever they go won’t be bothered about that hump as long as the photos are amazing, and from the looks of things it should have awesome cam capabilities. Carrying it around surely won’t need as much effort as walking with a big DSLR.

It also seems to a have a big flash. And we have a doubt whether that “XX” is suggesting that it’s a 20MP camera.

Whether it’s the EOS Windows Phone or not we are expecting the device to be official sometime soon. In the meantime, we are digging in for more info. So stay tuned for updates.

Would you mind such a bulge on your phone if it can take great pictures?

Last year many were pleased when Nokia announced the 808 PureView 41MP handset, even though it ran on the outdated Symbian OS instead of the more powerful Microsoft Windows Phone OS.

Fast forwarding a bit, the Nokia Lumia 920 has taken the market by storm and is known for its excellent camera, even though it has nothing close to the capabilities of the 808 PureView. The good news is that according to a new rumor, Nokia will release a version of the Lumia 920 with the 41MP PureView built in, code named Project EOS. If this rumor is true, we will likely see a version at MWC 2013.

The same rumor says that Nokia will be launching up to 6 new handsets the first half of this year, with one in particular being rumored to be a metal bodied Lumia 920.

For those that don’t yet have a Lumia 920 and have been thinking about it, this is great news. Still, with all these changes to the base Nokia Lumia 920, users that jumped on board out of the gates could be very upset with the upgraded versions so quickly. At this point however, nothing is confirmed and we will have to just wait and see what Nokia has up its sleeve.

What do you think of the rumor, could Nokia be readying a Lumia 920 variant with such a powerful camera onboard?

While the Nokia Lumia 920 is a solid phone overall, its biggest draw is the PureView rear camera capability.

That said, the camera is amazing at image-stabilization and low light, but has been receiving complaints about daylight photos being blurry. The good news is that a fix is in sight. It is being reported that Nokia will be changing the camera software for the Lumia 920 and will hopefully resolve some of the issues in an upcoming update.

Some sample shots from the new software have shown noted improvements with the issue so far. It is refreshing for a manufacturer to take note of feedback and work to quickly resolve the shortcomings. The update is set to be released later this month. Other improvements will include a fix for the random reboots reported and Wi-Fi stability fixes.

Are you a 920 owner and have you experienced these issues? Looking forward to this new update?

Nokia recently announced a brand new handset that is making quite an interesting splash thanks to its 41-megapixel camera. No, 41 was not a typo. It’s hard not to be impressed with such a huge MP amount in a camera. Of course, without a quality lense, megapixels don’t mean much. Luckily this doesn’t seem to be a problem for the PureView. To check out the beautiful pictures that the PureView takes, visit the Nokia’s ZIP file archive for some impressive, totally uncompressed samples.

The downside? While Nokia’s de facto operating system standard has recently become Windows Phone, apparently the PureView 808 didn’t get the memo about change of operating systems and comes equipped with Symbian as its OS. Essentially this means you get an awesome camera, but you’re stuck with a platform that largely doesn’t have any apps or support worth talking about.

According to Nokia, the choice mainly had to do with the device being in development for five years, so it started as a Symbian project and apparently finished as one. While this is certainly an interesting device, what I personally am waiting for is the PureView’s 41MP camera technology to come to a Windows Phone device, perhaps a Lumia?

Most smartphones have a camera in the range of five megapixels. Some may have eight or even twelve megapixels. The newly announced Nokia 808 PureView blows them out of the water with an amazing 41-megapixel camera. Forty. One. Megapixels.

It doesn’t quite work in the most conventional of ways, though, since the Nokia 808 PureView uses oversampling. What this means is that the image data is taken from seven neighboring pixels, consolidating them into a single pixel. As a result, you end up with a 5MP image as the default. It can produce 8MP and 38MP pictures too. The Carl Zeiss involvement certainly doesn’t hurt either.

Strangely, the phone is powered by the Nokia Belle operating system. Considering the waves that the Finnish company is making with Windows Phone, it’s odd that they’d take half a step back to the Symbian ecosystem. Other specs include the 4-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display, 1.3GHz single-core processor, 512MB RAM, and 16GB storage.

Expect to find this phone in May for 450 Euro ($600).
