Much progress has been made on the iPad 2 Jailbreak as well. Only a day after pod2g demoed the iPhone 4S jailbreak, he posted an image showing an iPad 2 jailbroken and running Cydia on iOS 5.0.1. Since both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 use A5 chip, the jailbreak will work on both devices once it is released into the wild.

 @planetbeing also tweeted a photo of an iPad 2 that has been jailbroken. He confirmed that the popular Jailbreak tweak “IntelliScreenX” that he helped write works on the iPad 2 right out of the Box.

The iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreak is Almost here! As of right now jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has only been successful on the iOS 5.0.1.

If you are looking forward to jailbreaking your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, if you haven’t already we suggest that you upgrade your iDevice to iOS 5.0.1 as fast as possible via iTunes. Apple may release an iOS update to counter the jailbreak. If your device happens to be not the iOS 5.0.1 and Apple releases a new version you will not be able to jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2. A Jailbreak Dream Team has come together to jailbreak the unjailbreakable A5 Chip iDevices iPad 2 & the iPhone 4S. Pod2g announced on his official blog that the juggernauts of iOS hacking has joined hands to create an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5. The hope is that all 4 of the iOS hackers will combine their will and strength come together as a team and fuzz the Apple box.

This comes only a few days after pod2g announced that he has made great step in A5 Jailbreak & if no more roadblocks rise up the jailbreak could be released in a week. Now that the Dream Team is working along side pod2g we may very see the untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 & iPhone 4S soon!

You might have wondered how it is possible for pod2g to have an untethered 4S device when dev teams still haven’t released tools to achieve this at home.

Wonder no longer, as Pod2g explains it all.

In his own words:

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can’t be released publicly.

It’s the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn’t distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

So in short, due to the need for a developer account the work involved really can’t be distributed without an exploit.

There are many users out there that have waited off on upgrading to the iPhone 4S for one big reason. You might wonder what would keep someone from wanting a much faster A5 device and Apple’s popular digital assistant, Siri.

In one word: jailbreaking.

Up until now there has been no viable way to jailbreak Apple’s A5 devices (iPhone 4S and the iPad 2) but if Pod2gis correct, this is all about to change.

Pod2g is an iOS cracker that has made a name for himself by discovering new methods for untethered jailbreaking and just yesterday he tweeted that he is a step closer to finally hacking Apple’s A5 devices.

According to the hacker, it could be as early as next week.

This is huge for those that own or are considering purchasing an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. While an earlier solution called JailbreakMe 3.0 existed for cracking sec-gen iPads, this only applied to the iOS 4 software. So finally getting A5/iOS5 devices jailbroken is a major step forward for the hacking community.

This sentiment was expressed on his blog, where he says: “I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.” It’s not that he wants the Chronic Dev Team to help him develop the jailbreak for Apple A5 iDevices; it’s that he wants them to take a load off his shoulders by working on the other project.

Pod2g has sent all the details to the Chronic Dev Team “so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.” That helps to free up his time and mental space to “put all my energy from now on on the A5.” If you have an iPhone 4S or iPad 2, that’s good news for you, or not, because you are still eagerly awaiting the fix. He might even have a treat for you before the end of the year. He’s hoping.

Wouldn’t it be a great surprise if that iOS 5 jailbreak for the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 would be ready for Christmas? Or how about before Christmas?  Developer Pod2g posted a video today, a quick demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4. He say’s its nearly “prime” for all devices except the 4S and iPad 2, but we can always hope for the best. The reason for the video? “This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods.” POD2G blogged.

The caching issues have been taken care of, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore. He fixed it by “doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process.”

Another news : I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he’s found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He’s definitly one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik!

All we can do is continue to wait “days” while they do their best. The only solution now is a tethered Redsn0w 0.9.9b9b that still does not support iPhone 4s or iPad 2.

This jailbreak will allow most devices to manually load IPSWs. If you have an iPhone 3GS and old bootrooms you can create IPSW files without blobs. However, this jailbreak is still tethered.

There are also some reports of lost functionality with the jailbreak, like loss of the ability to download over-the-air operating system updates from Apple is an obvious, and some new problems with the Skype app for iOS. Mobile Support Forum has a thread going with more details and download links to the files.
