Despite the departure of the brand that started it all, pocket camcorders are still going to stick around for a little while longer. Challenging other waterproof competitors like the Kodak PlaySport is the new Toshiba Camileo BW10.

Not surprisingly, this pocket camcorder comes in a somewhat ruggedized and rubberized housing to go along with its waterproof claims. You won’t be going deep sea diving with this, though, as the 6.5 feet depth limit is likely more in tune with snorkeling at best. If you want to go deeper, they’ve got more expensive models.

Unlike any of the Flip camcorders to ever hit the market, the Toshiba Camileo BW10 shoots video at up to 1080p and it’ll also take five-megapixel stills in a pinch. Wrapping up the spec sheet are the SD card slot, USB port (no swing out connector here!), and HDMI output.

Pick it up in a sporty yellow (I’m reminded of the old Sony Sports Walkman) or sexy silver for $150, minus a $20 instant rebate via Toshiba’s official site.

Toshiba unveiled their newest pocket HD Digital Camcorder at CES yesterday. The CAMILEO S30 camcorder films in full HD resolution with image stabalization at 1080p, 720p and 480p modes.

Technical features include the addition of a touch screen on the 3” LCD display and unsurprisingly it can double as an 8 megapixel camera which is always a nice touch for users. The camcorder comes equipped with 16X digital zoom but no word if that zoom is matched on the camera.

There’s lots of recording modes too including macro for the up close shots, motion detection and slow motion which seem like nice touches.

Beyond the technical highlights, its main feature is definitely the compact size. Toshiba compares it to the size of a smartphone at only three-fourths of an inch thick and a mere 4.2 ounces.

We’re a bit disheartened that it comes with only a 4GB digital SD memory card but this shouldn’t be too surprising. 4GB will only hold about 30mins of HD video at 1080p but if you shell out for a 64GB card you can store about 10 hours of video.

Toshiba is selling this little guy for $179.99 and you can save $30 buying it through their website which may help to offset the cost of the bigger memory card. Overall at this price point we don’t think you can go wrong.

When it comes to the pocket camcorder arena, a lot of people get really interested in the video resolution. Zoom cares too, but they also care a lot more about audio, and that’s how the Zoom Q3HD Handy Video Recorder was born.

Yes, it is able to record at full 1080pHD at 30 frames per second, but the kicker is that it is the only handheld capable of doing that and recording in HD audio (24-bit/96kHz). Audio, after all, is Zoom’s bread and butter.

Among the highlights in this newest pocket camcorder are a larger aperture with three lighting settings, the 120-degree X/Y microphone capsule configuration previously found in the zoom H4n recorder, and a built-in HDMI port for instant sharing on the big screen. It’s powered by a couple AA batteries and supports up to 32GB SDHC memory cards.

Doubling up on the HD-ness, for both audio and video, comes at a premium over devices that don’t do full HD in either department. The Zoom Q3HD is shipping now for $299.99 from online retailers.

Remember when the first Flip Video hit the market and everyone thought it was such an amazing little toy? It made video recording so accessible to everyone, since all you had to do was point and click that big red button. The Flip line expanded again today with the Flip SlideHD camcorder.

While all the other pocket camcorders in this line have offered the same basic form factor up until now, the Flip SlideHD is dramatically different.
Remember when the first Flip Video hit the market and everyone thought it was such an amazing little toy? It made video recording so accessible to everyone, since all you had to do was point and click that big red button. The Flip line expanded again today with the Flip SlideHD camcorder.

Cisco Flip Slide HD Revealed

While all the other pocket camcorders in this line have offered the same basic form factor up until now, the Flip SlideHD is dramatically different. It’s not just a regular old candybar, because it actually slides up… sort of like an HTC Tilt smartphone.

The other vital difference is that Cisco has enlarged the display dramatically. Instead of that tiny little window that you got on the Flip UltraHD and Flip MinoHD, you get a big three-inch display. Underneath that is a capacitive touch navigation bar. All the regular buttons are now replaced by on-screen controls instead.

The rest of the specs are quite similar to existing models, shooting 720p videos and saving them onto the 16GB of internal memory. That should be enough space for about four hours of video. You still get HDMI output, but they’ve also added a headphone jack for private listening.

The Flip SlideHD is available now for $280.
