Purported photos of the Huawei Ascend P2 have turned up on tech site Gizchina, along with details of a possible 8-core processor and estimated pricing for the new phone. The leaked photos (above) show a phone which closely resembles the renderings which appeared a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the photo of the front is to blurred and the rear photo has been obscured so there isn’t much we can learn from them.

However, further rumours suggest that the P2 could be sporting a Huawei developed 8-core processor and will be available in either a 1GB RAM or 2GB RAM version with pricing starting at around $480!

The rest of the purported specs claim that the phone will ship with a 4.7-inch FHD 1080 display, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 3000mAh battery and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean! Pretty amazing stuff for a phone costing less that $500.

If the device makes its way to your local market, would you be interested or not?

While we are use to seeing Android phones from smaller, lesser known manufacturers, the YotaPhone is one special phone which features dual-screens.

The ‘main’ screen on the YotaPhone is an LCD unit while the secondary screen is a bookworm friendly E Ink display, but don’t kid yourself in to thinking that the E ink display is just for reading as the YotaPhone team have some great ideas up their sleeves.

As you can see above the rear screen can be used to coax a smile, or duck face, from your photography subjects. Currently the Android powered YotaPhone is still a little buggy in use, but the idea and the drive to make things happen is their.

Keep your eyes peeled for more YotaPhone news as development moves forward to a possible end of year launch.

Although the Grand S isn’t scheduled to launch until later this month at CES, a few lucky people managed to get a first glimpse of the phone sporting a lime green finish at a design show in Shanghai yesterday.

ZTE staff showed the phone off along with promotional material depicting the 5-inch, quad-core phone in a number of attractive color choices including, black, white, grey, pink, and lime green shown in the photo below.

Those attending the show weren’t permitted to get any hands on time with the Grand S, but this didn’t stop talk of the phones specification sparking with sources continuing to suggest latest ZTE handset will receive a 5-inch 1080 display, quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Android Jelly Bean and a 13 mega-pixel camera.

Interestingly the Grand S shares a near identical specification to the China only Nubia Z5 (ZTE’s new flagship brand), however it measures in at just 6.9mm and, if rumors are true, should cost around $450 ($100 less than the Nubia Z5).

With Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram earlier this year, it is well known they have great interest in mobile apps. With that in mind, Facebook is now said to be working on a new app. This mobile app, set to be released in a couple of weeks, is supposed to be similar to that of Snapchat.

If you are not familiar with Snapchat, it is an app that allows its user to take a photo and share it for a preset length of time before it is automatically deleted. This is a good way to share your photos that you don’t want to take up space in your Facebook albums and be able to forget about it, knowing it will be deleted.

This app would be a good way to enhance Facebook’s privacy possibilities. Already on Facebook you can limit what users see what photos by placing them in groups (not circles). You can then share certain photos with certain groups. For instance, you would only share your party pics from your trip to Cancun, with your close friends group, so that your boss doesn’t see that you really weren’t sick that day. This app will just help Facebook have the ability to lock that down even more. So keep posted for more information on the upcoming release of this rumored app.

What do you think, is this something you would use?

You might have seen photographers framing photos with their hands before taking a snap. But with the new prototype shooter dubbed Ubi-Camera, you will be able to use your hands to frame the photo as well as shoot it at the same time. The miniature camera is currently under development at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences.

According to the video, “When you draw a picture or take a photo, you sometimes form a rectangle with your hands to decide the composition. With this camera, you can take a photo using the exact same motion. You attach this device to your index finger, and form a rectangle with your finger like this (see above). You take the photo by using the rectangle as the viewfinder….When you push hard with your thumb, the shutter is pressed”.

The Ubi-Camera comes equipped with a range sensor, and it detects the distance between the camera and the photographer’s face, and determines the framing. “When you take a photo with your face close to the camera, you get a wide-angle shot….and if you move it further away, you can take a close up shot”. Its lens has a fixed focal length, and you will be able to zoom in on something on your PC.

Although you won’t get that great feeling of holding a real camera when you are using the Ubi-Camera (will also look a bit silly), there is no need for viewfinders and displays for the new system. So we are expecting it to arrive with a low price tag.

But the system is still in the development stage and needs much work to be done on it. “Here, the camera has a wired connection to a PC, but we’d like to make a stand-alone camera that can be freely used outside. Also, the range sensor currently uses infrared, so it sometimes doesn’t detect your face properly, or it can be affected by light from the surroundings. So we’d like to use the camera to measure the distance as well, through face recognition. That would enable the system to be used more precisely”.
