How much would you be willing to pay for obsolete technology that doesn’t hold a candle to today’s gear? A few bucks? Maybe nothing, right? If so, you certainly aren’t an ambitious collector with money to burn. Recently two sellers put up an original, first-gen iPhone in factory-sealed glory at the massive price of $10,000.

There is little arguing about how significant the iPhone has been to the evolution of the smartphone market, though $10,000 is a lot to spend for most of us. As of now there have been no bids on either item, both with buy-it-now prices of $10,000 and with one having a minimum starting bid of $2,000, though they are both from reputable sellers.

With many days to go, it’s hard to say how high these could possibly go. So, here is the question, how much would you be willing to pay for an iconic piece of electronic history? Before you think that this is crazy (which it arguably is), you’d be surprised how much people will pay for stamps, small coins, and other seemingly plain items. With collectors they don’t look at it as just buying the item, they are buying the history and the bragging rights of having a piece of it. Would I ever spend such sums, even if I were a millionaire, on something like this? No way, but to each their own.
