Back in February we reported that the LG Optimus G Pro would be coming to the United States sometime in Q2 of this year. Now the LG E980 has shown up at the FCC with AT&T’s LTE bands in tow. Could this be the Optimus G Pro for AT&T’s network?

All the signs seem to point to yes. First, the LG E970 was the model number for the LG Optimus G, so the 980 sounds very likely to be the Pro. The timeline also seems to fit.

So if this is in fact the Optimus G Pro, that means that AT&T could soon get a direct competitor to the Note 2 on its network. Like the Note 2, it is a large-screen smartphone with a 5.5-inch 1080p display. Some of the other goodies include 2GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 600 processor. There is also Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a 3140 mAh battery.

How about it AT&T customers, anyone excited about this one or do you think it will quickly be overshadowed by other great phones coming with the Snapdragon 600 later this year like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4?

There is no denying that 5-inch quad-core phones are THE item to have in any manufacturers line up. From HTC to ZTE each company has something for the larger display lover out there, and that now includes LG.

The LG Optimus G Pro is the Korean giants first 5-inch 1080 phone, and takes advantage of the the company’s new 440ppi HD displays to great effect, but with so many similar hand-sets flooding the market is the LG really up to it?

A quick look at the specs certainly suggest so, as the Optimus G Pro packs a 1.7Ghz quad-core Snapdragon Pro CPU, 2GB RAM, a large 3000mAh battery, 13 mega-pixel main camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to boot.

Speaking of the OS, LG have added what they call Slide Apps to the system. This basically allows you to run small widget type apps, such as a calculator or calendar for example, over any app. What this means is you can be browsing for the latest gadgets in the browser while using a calculator to work out which you can afford to buy without switching from app to app. Pretty awesome!

Another nice tweak the LG has to offer is Dual Video, which is basically a way of capturing video from both cameras simultaneously.

The LG Optimus G Pro has just been unveiled in Japan, but the rest of the world can probably expect to see it at next months MWC. What do you think, interested in the Optimus G Pro or not?
