Opera Mini Web browser for the iPhone approved

Opera Mini Web browser is now available free to download on your iPhone. Apple has given it the green light, but shucks, still no Flash websites.  If that were the case, Flash would be on the iPad next, and ya’ll know how Apple feels about that.

The title of Opera’s press release Monday came bluntly – Approved: Opera Mini App approved for the App Store.  Apple is no longer worried about its Safari browser being the dominant runner for web, it’s not like the Company nets off it much.  Compared to Opera, it’s super slow.  And why would Apple want to get on bad terms with a company like Opera, with that big robot Android lurking about there’s no second chances.  Now fully equipped with iAds, Apple is ready to open up their handsets a little more.  A secret weapon they’ve kept under wraps while distracting us with wild patents.  They plan to bring ads to apps by embedding them and its all ahead of Google.  Apple see’s it as a better opportunity to make friends with developers than have them constantly getting hassled.

Nokia has had Opera for several months, so should get. Get more cool tabs and super fast loading cached web pages, all fo free on your iPhone.

Opera Mini for iPhone

If the new app can survive Apple’s cryptic and gauntlet like review process, it will be a big win for the millions of iPhone owners who have been left less than satisfied with their current browsing experience found in Safari.

The Norwegian company claims its mobile browser is “fast like a rocket” and host to a long list of features that are sure entice you: browser tabs, page caching, text search, and history are at the top but the real secret to its reign over Safari is its compression engine.

“Opera’s streamlined rendering engine and server-side compression allows Opera to load Web pages much more quickly than other mobile phone browsers.”

This magical compression they speak of accomplishes this by simply reducing the amount of bandwidth your hungry mobile device consumes while browsing the web. The wonderful side effects are that less page loading wait times while saving you money on roaming data fees.

Opera wants this so badly that they’ve launched the Opera Mini counter that tracks how long Apple takes for them to get an iPhone App Store approval.  I’m not sure if this is helping their case any, so it may just be for jailbroken iPhones until then.

What the Safari browser is to the iPhone, the Opera browser shall be to Windows Mobile devices.  Today Opera Software announced a native version of Opera Mini 5 beta 2 for Windows Mobile 5 and 6-based smartphones.  Opera on your Windows Mobile will give you a dramatic increase in browsing speed, tabs, and no more java.

How the browser works is by compressing up to 90 percent of the data traffic coming from websites before they get to your handset, thus delivering you a really fast browsing experience, and ultimately lowering your data fees.

The new version as removed Java, meaning it will work on any Windows Mobile phone, that’s a great thing for emerging markets where support for java may not always be offered on the majority of handsets. Features include tabbed browsing, password manager, bookmarks and Speed Dial.

So, if you’re already rocking one of the older versions of Opera Mini, why would you want to upgrade to this latest iteration? One of the most notable new features is the introduction of tabbed browsing. From the comfort of my laptop, I’ve become far too accustomed to having several tabs open at the same time and now I can have the same experience on my Nokia E71.

The tabbed browsing is fantastic for multitasking, assuming that your smartphone can handle that kind of added load. Other updates over the current 4.2 version of Opera include Speed Dial startup links (like the Chrome homepage), password management, and a “Turbo” pre-cached mode for slower connections.

Opera Mini will work on most Java-enabled phones, so that includes the vast majority of Nokia and BlackBerry devices in the audience, at the very least.
