Apple certainly is not planning to bring Adobe Flash to their iOS devices, in fact they iBlocked it. But OnLive has managed to find a way to go around that, and much more. The company’s OnLive Desktop Plus, the new version of their OnLive Desktop remote access app, will allow you access to an entire PC remotely which is equipped with Flash.

In case you are new to all this, OnLive, which was founded by Steve Perlman (famous for his Quicktime video and WebTV), started streaming full 3d games (cloud gaming) across the net to desktops, laptops, and tablets, before putting Windows on the iPad. Their OnLive Desktop iPad application allowed users to play with cloud-based Windows desktop and Windows applications.

Their newly released update to the application brings gigabit-speed accelerated browsing with support for Adobe Flash, something that iFans have long wished for.

According to OnLive CEO Steve Perlman, “You can expect even the most elaborate Flash websites to load in seconds, even if it would have taken your home computer minutes to load the same page. Animation, video and sound come through impeccably and instantly. And, large cloud storage files and Web email attachments—even 50 MB PowerPoint presentations—to upload or download in less than a second”.

The folks over at Wired.com got to play with OnLive’s Flash browser earlier, and they are talking about download speeds of at least 100 megabits. But there’s a few things Wired, and many other mainstream media outlets did not talk about, Privacy.

The service will run you $4.99 per month, it essentially gives you access to a remote version of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Reader, and also 2GB of cloud-based storage. But all your data, even your actions, clicks and sites you visit are remotely cataloged in the cloud on OnLive servers by your IP Address.

Website & Service Logs: OnLive may collect information in the form of website and/or service logs (collectively “Logs”). These Logs are files that record activity on the Websites and Services and gather statistics about users’ activities, such as how many users have visited the Websites, how often, how many “hits” a particular webpage has received, sign-in and sign-off times for the Services, type and quality of the user’s Internet connection to the Services, identification of the user’s hardware and software running the Services, which features on the Services you used, and the frequency of use. The entries comprising the Logs contain IP addresses, user IDs, email addresses, and identification of the Internet service provider that provides your connection to the Internet. Generally, we use the Logs to operate and improve the Websites and Services, to identify the popularity of certain features, to assist with internal marketing and demographic studies, to enable us to assess overall efficiency and activity on the Websites and Services, and to assess users’ web-browsing and Service activities, preferences, and habits. We also use the Logs to monitor traffic on the Websites and Services, to troubleshoot technical problems, to support OnLive CS operations, for security reasons, and to foster the safety of the Websites and Services.

OnLive’s Privacy Policy elegantly goes on to gather additional information of its users, but of course, at the users consent by being required to agree to the Privacy Policy (last updated Feb. 22 2012) upon registration. Like how non-personal demographic information can be cataloged, then referenced back to your original Personal Profile by their wording under Player Tags, Screen Names and Player Profiles which allows these credentials to log onto OnLive Desktop to be tracked in the same way.

Player Tags, Screen Names and Player Profiles: Your Player Tag on the OnLive Game Service and Screen Name on OnLive Desktop can be used interchangeably. This means that if you have an Account set up on the OnLive Game Service with a Player Tag and password, you can use these credentials to log onto OnLive Desktop. Conversely, if you have a Screen Name and password on OnLive Desktop, these credentials can be used to log onto the OnLive Game Service. Player Tags and Screen Names are unique OnLive identifiers that can be seen on the OnLive Websites and Services. Player Profiles are personal summaries on the OnLive Game Service that may include the user’s Player Tag, presence on the Services, last log-on, use of content, gameplay statistics, and stated city, region or country location that can be seen on the OnLive Websites and OnLive Game Service. In some cases, Player Tags and Player Profiles from the OnLive Websites and Services, may be made public by OnLive, our affiliates, subsidiaries, licensors, partners, or suppliers for the purposes of leaderboards, enhancing multiplayer gameplay, tournaments, and marketing and promotion efforts, and in providing us with such information you consent to such disclosure. Because Player Tags and Player Profiles may be widely viewed we caution users to avoid using any personally identifiable information when creating Player Tags and Player Profiles. We do not consider Player Tags, Screen Names or Player Profiles to be Personal Information, as used in this Privacy Policy.

But it’s all in good business, the company wants to collect your demographic data which is valuable to marketers, and most likely Microsoft too; since they are providing the entire office suite of apps:

Non-Personal Demographic Information: If you choose to complete surveys or your Player Profile, you may provide certain demographic information about yourself such as information about your lifestyle, personal tastes, purchasing habits, city and state, province or territory, education, job, and income.

Then they link it all back to you:

In connection with our provision of the Websites and Services, we may collect the following non-personal information from you. The information identified in this section may be combined with Personal Information in order to assist OnLive with community management, customer support, and technical support. Information About Your Computer and Connection to the Internet: We may collect information about your computer, hardware, device, software, platform, media, Internet IP address, connection information, geographic IP information, and details concerning your Internet service provider. This is statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.

Of course, this being a cloud-based service with remote access to services for you, it can also be remotely accessed by someone else; OnLive’s monitoring tracker can let their staff jump on and see what you are doing in realtime:

Communications Within the Services: OnLive may access and collect information about user email, instant messaging sessions, video, text chats, Friend requests, online group activity, and any other forms of communication within the Services and users expressly consent to OnLive monitoring, collecting, recording (in the case of Brag Clip videos or video clips of user activity on OnLive Desktop, when social features including voice chat are enabled on OnLive Desktop) and accessing these forms of communication.

At only $4.99 per month, what a bargain to get access to Adobe Flash and all those great Microsoft Office apps. In the meantime, I’ll stick to software like Oracle’s OpenOffice which allows me to keep my data on my own devices and to my own eyes.

Tablets are definitely the hottest stuff these days. But when it comes to gaming, even the most popular Apple iPad fails to impress when up next to this. And by gaming, we do not mean Angry Birds. We mean all the latest graphics-heavy titles (like Assasins Creed). No tablet device available on the market nowadays is capable of handling all the latest games. But Razer, the video game hardware developer, intends to change the current situation with Project Fiona.

For months developers from around the world have been working on bringing tablets closer to good game titles. They have managed to come out with apps like OnLive, as well as controllers and gamepad attachments. But Razer appears to have done the best work so far.

Razer’s concept gaming tablet dubbed “Project Fiona” has attracted quite a number of people at CES 2012.

With these controllers, you will be able to play any gamepad-enabled title on the device. And you will be happy to hear that most games will run natively on it.

The touchscreen on the tablet is coming with multitouch capabilities, something that the developers might note. Other features include a 3-axis gyro, magnetometer, and accelerometer, and force feedback in the two “handles”. It is also coming with a THX certified sound system.

The company is expecting to release the final version of the tablet in Q4 of 2012 and they are targeting a sub-$1,000 price tag.

Seeing how just about everyone else is coming out with an Android tablet these days, it should really come as little surprise that HTC wanted a big slice of this pie too. And now it’s here: behold the HTC Flyer.

Rather than go with the same NVIDIA Tegra2 processor and Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS like everyone else, HTC opted for a (single core) 1.5GHz processor and Android 2.4 Gingerbread. This is a bit of an odd choice for launch, but it will make the HTC Flyer a little different from the rest.

Android Central reports this will be changed: “I can confirm we are working to bring a flyer to Honeycomb update in short order – however, I do not have any specific information on what the timing may be.”

The seven-inch 1024×600 display will be comparable to the Galaxy Tab. Other specs include the 5MP rear cam, 1.3MP front cam, microSD slot, and a super-sized version of HTC Sense UI. HTC will be customized according to each device. One interesting addition is support for the OnLive gaming platform. You’ll need an OnLive controller, but it means you can play some real games on this thing.

Running through the rest of the specs on the HTC Flyer, you can expect quad-band connectivity, 1GB RAM, 32GB storage, G-sensor, digital compass, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, WiFi-N. The 4000mAh battery might leave something to be desired, but a supersized HTC Sense could be just as good as Honeycomb… or not.

No word on pricing, availability, or carrier support.

Update: The Pen-based HTC Flyer tablet was spotted on Amazon.de for 669 Euro ($730).

With HTC SENSE™

Aluminum unibody design with touch and pen interaction make HTC Flyer unique

First tablet with HTC Watch™ video service, HTC Scribe™ Technology
and OnLive® cloud gaming

BARCELONA, SPAIN – Mobile World Congress – February 15, 2011 – HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today announced its first tablet, the HTC FlyerTM. HTC Flyer blends HTC’s trademark design language with an all-new HTC Sense user experience that has been reimagined for the tablets. Using an intuitive and innovative approach to tablets, HTC Flyer combines natural touch and pen interaction. HTC also announced HTC Watch, a new connected video service that will debut on HTC Flyer tablet, and will collaborate with OnLive, Inc. to launch the first cloud-based mobile gaming service on a tablet.

“Clearly, smartphones have transformed our lives but as we observed how people use smartphones, computers and other technologies, we saw an opportunity to create a tablet experience that is different, more personal and productive,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “We are progressing down a path as an industry when people will no longer be in a single device paradigm, but have multiple wireless devices for different needs; this is the direction we are moving.”

Encased in a sleek aluminum unibody, the HTC Flyer tablet exudes the iconic style and build quality HTC is known for. It is also ultra-light, weighing as little as a paperback book, and compact enough to fit in a jacket pocket only. With a seven-inch display, lightning fast 1.5Ghz processor and high-speed HSPA+ wireless capabilities, the HTC Flyer tablet is perfect for those who have been waiting for a tablet that is both compact and powerful.

HTC Sense for Tablet
HTC Sense revolutionized smartphones by placing the person at the center of the experience. HTC Flyer’s tablet-focused HTC Sense experience focuses on surprising and delighting people with its gorgeous 3D home screen. A unique carousel of widgets puts a user’s most important content and information at the visual center of the experience. The HTC Flyer tablet also offers uncompromised Web browsing with Flash 10 and HTML 5.

HTC Scribe Technology
Touch interaction lights up the HTC Flyer tablet experience, but it also offers a groundbreaking pen experience. With the new HTC Scribe Technology on the HTC Flyer tablet, people can rediscover the natural act of writing. HTC Scribe Technology introduces a wave of integrated digital ink innovations that make it easy and natural to take notes, sign contracts, draw pictures, or even write on a web page or photo.

HTC Scribe Technology on the HTC Flyer tablet transforms traditional note-taking into smart note-taking by integrating natural onscreen writing with thoughtful and integrated innovations. A feature called Timemark enables you to capture the audio of a meeting in line with your written notes, so tapping on a word in your notes instantly takes you to that exact place in time in the audio recording of the meeting. Notes are also integrated with the calendar so when there is an appointment reminder you are automatically prompted with an opportunity to begin a new note or in the case of recurring meetings, to continue where the last meeting left off. In an industry first, the HTC Flyer tablet also features built-in synchronization with Evernote, the world-leading notes application and service.

Streaming Mobile Movies with HTC Watch
The HTC Flyer tablet premieres HTC Watch, HTC’s new video download service. The HTC Watch service enables low-cost on-demand progressive downloading of hundreds of High-Definition movies from major studios. The intuitive, natural design of the HTC Watch service makes it easy to find the latest movie and video content, while advanced technology on the back-end enables instant playback over the HTC Flyer tablet’s high-speed wireless connection.

Mobile Cloud Gaming with OnLive
HTC takes mobile gaming to an entirely new level by being the first mobile device in the world to integrate OnLive Inc.’s revolutionary cloud-based gaming service. OnLive is leading in the home gaming market by letting people play top video games on their televisions and computers without the need to buy expensive gaming hardware or software. When integrated fully, the OnLive service will enable customers to pipe the OnLive service through the HTC Flyer tablet’s broadband wireless to their television sets, or let them play directly on the tablet. When integrated on the HTC Flyer tablet, people can play a variety of games, including hits like Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood™, NBA 2K11 and Lego Harry Potter™.

Availability
HTC Flyer will be available to customers globally during Q2 2011.
