Back in October, Samsung and Verizon formally announced the the Ativ Odyssey. Now we finally have new word suggesting that the phone will arrive in “the coming weeks”.

What kind of specs will the phone have on offer? The original leaks appeared to be right on cue, with the phone having a 4 inch WVGA 800 x 480 super AMOLED display, a 1080p HD 5 megapixel camera on the rear, and 1.2MP camera on the front. This phone will be released with Windows Phone 8 OS.

The display points to this phone, more than likely, being an entry or mid level smartphone. However, coupled with some of its not so basic features, this will still be a great phone for many users. We currently have no word on the actual release date or the pricing for the Ativ Odyssey.

If this phone is priced to move, would you consider picking one up?

The Apple and Samsung war over Samsung’s alleged patent infringement has revealed to us a great many things such as iPhone prototypes, internal company memos and now even information about two possible upcoming Samsung Windows 8 Phones, “Odyssey” and “Marco”. Both of these handsets are supposed to run on a Qualcomm MSM8960 chipset and will feature dual-core 1.5GHz system-on-a-chip designs.

So what sets the two Windows 8 devices apart? The Odyssey will have a 4.65-inch AMOLED diplay with an HD resolution and 8MP rear camera for one thing. The Odyssey will also be an NFC device which means it should support WP8 special features like the Wallet Hub and Tap+ Send features previously announced. As for the Marco, it will have a 4-inch S-AMOLED display with a WVGA resolution and 5MP rear camera. Both phones will be capable of LTE speeds and will likely launch around Q4 of 2012, right around the rumored date of release for Windows Phone 8. We don’t know a lot about these devices, as far as looks are concerned, but from a specs-only point of view, they don’t sound half-bad. Windows Phone 7 didn’t exactly make a huge mark in the mobile world but Microsoft seems intent on changing their position in the mobile devices world for good with Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 (and RT).

It’s too early to say whether Microsoft’s strategy going forward will work or not but we are already seeing a pretty strong level of support from big-name vendors both for its phone and tablet endeavors with the Windows 8 and WP8 lines.
