Toshiba’s 13-Inch Excite Tablet Is Not That Exciting

Toshiba’s Thrive tablets were certainly not crowd favorites, and the company, after listening to customer complaints, has introduced a new line of tablets in the Excite line. It’s a good thing that they are changing their designs and bringing out pretty looking devices: the 7.7″ tablet which has the same AMOLED display on the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the 10″ Excite with a resolution of 1280 x 800. But why in the world have they decided to include an unnecessarily large 13″ model in the list?

Quad-Core Android Tablet Demo Video Unveiled By NVIDIA

Nvidia’s newest SoC, dubbed Kal-El is a stunning combination between a quad-core CPU and a 12-core GPU able to offer amazing dynamic lightning and movement performances. Kal-El is part the Tegra 3 architecture bringing four 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 cores on a single processor and a 12-core Nvidia GPU able to render 3D stereo, all crammed on the same chip. As surprising as it might seem, this killer combination has been particularly designed for smartphones and tablets, not your big ole desktop computer.

Confirmed: Apple Policy Fails to Determine Eligibility of MacBook Pro NVIDIA GPU Problems

In July 2008 Nvidia admitted a high failure rate in some of their graphics processors due to a “packaging defect.” Hold up now, this reason is not explained in much detail beyond that. But many technicians are attributing this problem to improperly applied heat-transfer material (that silver gook that allows thermal energy to transfer from the chip to your heatsink and cooling fan.) The faulty Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor was the GPU chip affected and the problems inevitably resulted in the loss of video or the inability to boot your MacBook Pro entirely. Again, they say a “packaging defect” was the problem. Would it be safe to say the MacBook Pro is the packaging? Nvidia was unavailable to comment on this “packaging problem” as they do not discuss agreements about their hardware partners.

Quad-Core Kal-El Android Devices Coming This August

Realistically thought of as the Tegra 2 successor, Kal-El will be the world’s first mobile quad-core CPU. NVIDIA is already sending out samples and they expect Android devices will start getting releaseed with Kal-El under the hood this August.
