I’ve got some good news and some bad news for all the Nokia fans in the audience. The good news is that they’ve been pumping out some interesting possibilities with phones like the N8 lately. The bad news is that the newly revealed Nokia C5-03 doesn’t really fall into the same category.

Nokia’s soon to be EX-VP takes bitter stab at Android for publicity

While it is still the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world in terms of worldwide sales, Nokia is quickly losing market share to its competitors. Many people, myself included, have said that switching to Android would be a good way to turn things around, but the Finns don’t seem to agree.

Nokia Ovi Maps getting traffic, transit, check-ins

Looks like the crew at Nokia decided that today is a good day to make some big announcements. In addition to the three new phones, Nokia is also updating its Ovi Maps application with no fewer than three new features. Yup, they’re finally recognizing that software is just as important as hardware.

Nokia’s dual-SIM C1-00 and C2 phones

I’m starting to dig some of these C-series phones from Nokia. Yes, they’re lower-spec’d compared to high-end smartphones, but they’re much more affordable and offer plenty of functionality. The latest to join the bunch are the Nokia C1-00 and Nokia C2, both of which are the first to support dual SIMs.

Gartner says Symbian’s days are numbered

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. No matter how popular the iPhone and iOS have become, its market share still pales in comparison to Nokia and the Symbian OS. However, things aren’t all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows in Symbian land.

According to Gartner analyst Nick Jones, Symbian has been surpassed by its primary competitors. The Symbian platform may still be the world’s most widely used mobile OS, but it has fallen behind iOS and Android (as well as BlackBerry for that matter).

Review: Nokia CS-18 HSPA+ Rocket Mobile Internet Stick

As great as smartphone experiences have become, they’re still not quite the same as surfing the Internet on a proper computer. At the same time, you may not always be in the presence of an available Wi-Fi hotspot. That’s why products like the Nokia CS-18 are so useful.

Available through Rogers Wireless, this is an HSPA+ Rocket Mobile Internet Stick. What this means is that it uses the HSPA+ cellular network to connect your computer to the Internet, rifling through a mobile data plan not unlike what you’d do on a BlackBerry or iPhone. This concept is not new, but it’s good to see an HSPA+ option.
