We have been seeing a lot of good deals from Barnes and Noble recently, and now an even better one. They are currently offering both the Nook HD and the HD+ at discount rates through Mother’s Day on May 12.

You can now get the 8GB Nook HD for $149 and the 16GB version costs $179 (a $50 discount). The 9-inch 16GB HD+ will be yours for $179 (down from $269) and the 32GB model for $209 (drop from $299). The devices are available online at Barnes & Noble bookstores and on Nook.com, and at retailers including Best Buy.

The Nook tablets have suddenly become more appealing with this price drop, and also the slates now support Google Play (so access to more than 700,000 apps and games. That’s a big advantage over the Amazon Kindle Fire devices. At Amazon, the entry-level Kindle Fire has a price tag of $159, the 16GB Fire HD costs $199 and the 32GB 8.9-inch Fire HD tablet is available for $299.

As for other rivals, the Google Nexus 7 starts at $199 and Nexus 10 retails from $399. The Mac maker’s iPad mini starts at $329. Bottom-line, for the hardware, the Nook HD and HD+ are nothing less than a steal at their reduced pricing. What do you think, are you interested?

It’s the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, the 10.1-inch Android Jelly Bean tablet which was announced in January, and it’s now available for pre-order.

The device features a ‘Full HD Reality Display’ (1920x1200p WUXGA), a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8MP shooter on the back and a 2MP cam up front.

Should you get the Xperia Tablet Z? It is certainly a stylish looking device. On the other hand, its 6000mAh battery and $499.99 price tag for the 16GB (black) model are not very appealing when you compare it to the Nexus 10. The Nexus 10 is better in comparison with a bigger battery, its 2560×1600 display and a more pleasant price. But the Xperia Tablet Z is the one for you if an SD card slot is very important to you. And the Z is also super thin, super light, and water/dust-resistant.

If you order the $599.99 32GB white version of the Tablet Z, you will be eligible for a free cradle. We are not sure why the offer is not available with the 32GB black one.

So, are you interested? Still can’t make up your mind? You can check out a comparison chart here, all thanks to Sony. And do check out Dreyfus, their adorable three-legged spokesdog, in the video below.

While the Nexus 10 has already been on the market for about five months, we’ve yet to see an official cover for the tablet – until now. Google Play is now offering covers for the Nexus 10 in two colors, grey or scarlet (which is really more of an orange it looks like).

These official covers snap into a plastic plate on the back of the Nexus 10. Is this cover really necessary? Maybe, depends on where you drag your Nexus 10, whether it is open to use by kids, and other factors. Still, at just $30, it might be worth buying and it certainly looks quite attractive.

Right now Google estimates shipping from the Play Store to take about 3-5 business days. What do you think, anyone interested in getting an official cover for their 10-inch Nexus tablet?

Source: Google Play (Grey) (Scarlet)

The iPad has dominated the tablet market ever since the tablet was first released in April of 2010. Many a manufacturer have tried to strip that name from Apple, but instead of becoming the “next big thing”, most just turn out to be market fillers.

The Archos 97 Titanium HD is likely just one of these “attempts” that won’t do much but might still be a more affordable option for those with basic needs. The Titanium HD comes with a 9.7″ display packing 2048 x 1536 pixels (264 pixels per inch). If you’re familiar, those specs are identical to that of the newest iPad. The rest of the specs come in as follows:

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

5MP rear camera

2MP front-facing camera

1.6GHz dual-core A9 processor

quad-core GPU (Mali 400 MP4)

1GB of RAM

8GB of internal memory

MicroSD (up to 64GB)

640 grams, 240 mm x 184 mm x 9 mm

With the tablet market moving fast away from expensive tablets and more into cheap tablets like the Nexus 7, how does Archos expect something with these high-end specs to survive? Especially considering that consumers generally think of Archos as a budget brand? Hopefully, this means we will be seeing the Titanium HD with a sub-$400 price tag.

Do you think the Archos 97 Titanium HD has a chance against the iPad? Would you buy it over other Android and iOS tablets if it was priced very aggressively or not?

Wanting to get your hands on a Google Nexus 10 for the holidays? You are not alone, and unfortunately it seems you won’t be able to snag one in time.

The Nexus 10 was listed on Staples site yesterday and has been struck with the sold out curse. Walmart online is also as of today showing the Nexus 10 as Sold Out.

This leaves us wondering if the initial supply sent to retailers was adequate or were there really just that many people clamoring to get one. The tablet is also out of stock at the Google Play Store.

This could be seen as good news in forms of an adequate competitor of the Apple iPad. For consumers, though? This trend of “sold out” status on Nexus items in particular is definitely getting frustrated, and it would seem manufacturers should step up supplies in advance.

Where you one of the lucky few to get a hold of the Nexus 10?

The Nexus 10 may soon be getting a new way to charge its battery. A forum user on Android Central recently showed off a new Pogo charger on the site which apparently hooks onto the phone using magnets instead of fumbling with a traditional cord. This system appears to be similar to the MagSafe chargers for MacBooks.

The forum user claims that he works for the direct supplier of the cable to the Korean manufacturer Samsung. He stated it should hit Amazon and Ebay soon for $19.99 – $24.99. The photo supplied in the post appears to fit a Nexus 10, but at this point nothing has been verified and we can not confirm any details at this point.

The Nexus 10 is still proving to be quite elusive to get a hold of though as the 32GB version is still showing as “Out of Stock”, but the 16GB version appears to be available. This looks like it will be a cool alternative to charging with the microUSB option and we will post more as soon as we have details.

What do you think, is it worth paying the money for such a connector?

If you were hoping to get the LG Nexus 4 or Samsung Nexus 10 today, good luck. You will certainly need it.

The Nexus 4 is already sold out on Google Play in the United States. As for the Nexus 10? The 32GB model is out, but you can still get the 16GB version (at least at the time of this writing). In the other international markets, things are even bleaker with all Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 models completely out of stock.

What’s even more crazy is how quickly this all happened. In many markets the sell-out of the Nexus 4 happened in 20-60 minutes. The Nexus 10 also sold very fast, with most markets selling out in an hour or two after its launch. Even worse, the Google Play Store had been experiencing issues do to server overload. The result was that many users that went to purchase a device found that the store was acting up and wouldn’t let them. By the time they were able to click to put things in their cart, the devices were sold out.

Google clearly underestimated the demand for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10. More than likely, the company used past trends from Nexus smartphones and the Nexus 7 to help calculate demands. They probably even took this information and doubled up to “be safe”. The fact is that the pricing on the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are so desirable that a major first day sell out was inevitable. Would have been nice had enough stock to keep devices around for at least MOST of the first day though.

If you weren’t able to pick up the Nexus 4 or Nexus 10 for order today, you will probably get a chance in the next few days. That being said, it’s hard to say how long the next several shipments of stock will last at the rate these Nexus devices seem to be selling.

It’s worth noting that the LG Nexus 4 isn’t the only smartphone selling like hotcakes, the Nokia Lumia 920 is also reportedly out of stock in many locations across the United States and in Europe. Too many great smartphone and tablet choices out there— not enough stock.

Were you lucky enough to get the Nexus 4 and/or Nexus 10? If not, are you one of those that attempted only to have store errors or simply find out that Google was already out of stock?

The Nexus has landed. I repeat, the Nexus has landed. The LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Nexus 10 are finally available through Google Play.

Interestingly enough, ahead of the launch Google had already released the first minor update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. If you buy a Nexus 4 or 10 you will have access to the screen lock widget and a few other tweaks and changes, and Nexus 10 owners will now have multi-user support. None of these features were available to those that have prototypes and test units before today.

For those that have been living under a rock, the LG Nexus 4 is just $299 for an 8GB model with no contract. As for the Nexus 10? This powerful tablet has a display resolution higher than Apple’s Retina display on the iPad and yet is $100 cheaper at $399 for the base model.

So how about it, anyone excited to get their hands on the Nexus 4 or the Nexus 10?

The new Google Nexus 10 and 4 are set to go on sale on November 13th, however, one customer at Walmart has supposedly found the tablet today.

The customer has taken a picture of the 32GB model resting on a shelf with a $499 price tag underneath the item. Apparently, the person who took the picture did not buy it, but instead took a photo and left the store. So far there have been no other reports about possible early releases like this one, so there’s probably quite a small quantity of Nexus 10 tablets in public reach at this point. In this case, it’s most likely that an employee at Walmart made a mistake with stocking the shelves. But it could be possible a small number of users now have their hands on the tablet, seeing as the official release is only 4 days away, it’s not likely to cause any issues or hurt sales.

The Nexus 10 32GB version will sell for $499 from the Google Play website, and will also make an appearance across the States in various stores and supermarket chains.

When it comes to 10-inch tablets, most consumers certainly think of iPad as the most powerful option out there. Sure, there are other high-end 10-inch tablets that are running on Android or Windows 8/RT, but they don’t have the display power of the Retina and probably aren’t as cutting-edge in processing and graphics as the newest 4th generation Apple iPad. This dynamic is now crashing down thanks to the newly announced Samsung Nexus 10.

In the 7-inch world, the iPad Mini recently arrived and while pricier than alternatives, it doesn’t compare to the power of many its rivals like the Nexus 7. Of course it is still likely to do very well among many consumers. Now the same thing will be true in the 10-inch world. The Surface is already starting to do pretty well in the 10-inch category, and now the Nexus 10 is going to give Apple even more solid competition.

So is the Nexus 10 really in the same league as the Surface or even the iPad 3rd and 4th gen? Let’s find out.

Processing Power and RAM

While the iPad 4 runs on a dual-core Apple A6x processor and features 1GB of RAM. As for the Nexus 10, you get 2GB of RAM and a dual-core Exynos 5 processor. Clearly the Nexus 10 is a winner here when it comes to RAM at least. As for graphics, both do quite nicely here and might come close to a tie.

Storage Options

If you are looking for a 64GB storage option, the iPad 4 wins. If that doesn’t matter, they both also have a 16 and 32GB version. In storage the iPad does have a bit of an edge. Neither of the tablets have any way to expand the internal memory either.

Cameras

Love taking pictures, recording videos or talking via webcam? Both devices have a 5MP rear cam, but the iPad 4 does have a weaker 1.2MP front cam versus the 1.9MP front cam in the Nexus 7.

Connectivity

If you want mobile broadband, the iPad wins. For now, Google and Samsung aren’t announcing a 4G/3G version of the Nexus 10. As far as GPS is concerned, they are similar here, but the iPad DOES NOT have NFC and the Nexus 10 does… so it really depends on what you need here.

Weight and Size
The Nexus 10 weights SLIGHTLY less than the iPad 4 at 1.32 pounds versus 1.33 pounds- obviously not enough to notice though. As for the overall dimensions, the Nexus 10 is .35-inches thick while the iPad 4 is slightly thinner at .34-inches.

Pretty comparable here, to be honest.

Display

The display is where things get real interesting here. The 10.055-inch Nexus 10 has a 300ppi display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. The slightly smaller 9.7-inch IPS LED display on the iPad 4th generation model has 264ppi and a display of 2048 x 1536.

There is no easy way to say it here, Apple just got dethroned when it comes to screen technology.

Battery

According to Apple, they have a 42.5 watt-hour battery in the iPad 4. The Nexus 10 has a 9000 mAh battery. Do with that what you will.

Ecosystem

Apple has the iTunes and iOS ecosystem. There are more apps here and many consumers like the interface in iOS over what you get in Android. This will honestly come down to preference.

Google has Google Now, the Apple has Siri. Both have powerful operating systems and decent marketplaces for consumers to get apps.

Pricing

With specs so close, you’d probably guess the Nexus 10 and iPad 4 are both $499. You would be totally wrong. The Nexus 10 is $100 cheaper, starting at $399 for the 16GB model or $499 for the 32GB model.

With cheaper pricing and similar hardware, could the Nexus 10 be the first true iPad killer? Probably not. This is a solid looking tablet and will likely sell quite well, but it will likely come down to whether you prefer Android or iOS. Current iOS fans would probably not go with Android no matter how great/cheap the tablet was, and the same goes for Android fans when talking about iPhone/iPad.

The real war here will be fought for those who are platform neutral and simply want a tablet that does the job well without costing a fortune. What do you think of the Nexus 10 so far?
