The Mac Mini isn’t the only mini-PC in town. Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn has formally announced its new AT-5250 and AT-5600 fanless nano PCs and they’re looking pretty slick. The brushed black finish is a little different than what we saw back in May, but the input/output ports look much the same.

There’s a couple of USB 3.0 ports, four USB 2.0, Gigabit ethernet, headphone/microphone jacks, multi-card reader, 801.11n Wi-Fi, and HDMI and VGA for video, but there’s word of a possible DVI connection too. The “quiet” Foxconn Nano is said to be up to 40 times smaller than a standard PC, but you obviously can’t expect it to outperform a high-end gaming PC. It is just a nettop, after all, but you do get the convenience of a VESA mount.

The $260 AT-5250 gets a Intel Cedar View D2550 processor (1.8GHz) with integrated Intel GMA 3650 graphics, whereas the $280 AT-5600 gets the AMD Brazos E450 APU (1.65GHz) and Radeon HD 6320 graphics under the hood. Both are expected to use either 2.5-inch/1.8-inch hard drives or 2.5-inch SSDs, but storage is not included. Look for these to ship in September.

This has certainly been a very long time coming and it’s not really coming in the form of a netbook just yet, but we’re almost there. The nettop market seems to be growing and Acer is bringing one of the most powerful offerings to the table with the upgraded Acer AspireRevo R3610-U9012.

This is quite the impressive offering, considering that it’s listing with an MSRP of just $329.99. You’ll still need to provide your own LCD monitor, but this is a very affordable and somewhat portable computing solution.

The biggest highlight has to be the Intel Atom N330 processor. This is a dual-core CPU clocking in at 1.6GHz. I can’t wait to see some netbooks running on this processor, since we’ve already had more than our fair share of N270 single-core Atom netbooks.

Other features include Windows 7 Home Premium, NVIDIA ION graphics, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, six USB ports, HDMI/VGA ports, eSATA, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and a card reader. Acer will also toss in a free wireless keyboard and mouse into the bundle.

The press release says that the Acer AspireRevo R3610-U9012 nettop is “available” now through online retailers, Windows 7 isn’t officially out yet. I’ll venture a guess that this will actually start shipping late next week when Win7 officially hits the primetime.

Asus hits us with another, the EeeBox PC Eb1501 lightweight entertainment PC. In fact it's so light that it can balance itself on a single corner.

The post Asus EeeBox EB1501 Nettop with Ion Graphics, DVD Slot and 1080p HDMI appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

Ok Asus, great job, but Windows 7? I’m a Linux head so I won’t be overly impressed by that, but the hardware specs are nice, with an Intel Atom N330 Dual Core processor and NVIDIA ION graphics platform and a macbook-style slot-load optical disc drive (DVD-RW no Blue-ray) to stream 1080p to that big fat LCD.

Also, the EB1501 is pretty darn connected, from everything from 6 USB 2.0 ports, an SD card reader, an eSATA connection for external drives, 802.11n Wi-Fi and a nice Gigabit Ethernet link. S/PDIF output also gives you 5.1 dolby audio.

Energy efficiency is all the rage these days, using 70% less power than an average desktop PC. This little balancing box is set to hit the streets of Europe and US from October 22nd, allowing it to come bundled with the new Windows 7 OS, no official word concerning pricing, we can expect it to be around the $600 USD mark (£367/€400).
