We have seen it in many spy movies, but there’s a possibility that you might play with one sometime in the near future. At this year’s CES, we saw the Lumus transparent wearable AR display and the company revealed a new optical engine at the Mobile World Congress. The Lumus OE-31 see-through wearable display can be integrated in regular glasses. As you can see above, the eyewear in the picture comes with an embedded MP3 player; the OE-31 is on its left side.

As you might know, Google is also reportedly developing something similar. Their AR glasses will provide you with information as you gaze upon the world. But, while that design is said to involve an opaque display over one eye, the Lumus OE-31 will add an image layer (with nHD resolution) on top of what you see through the glasses.

The possibilities for the new technology are certainly endless. For example, athletes can use eyewear with OE-31 for getting info such as speed, lap time, and heart rate while jogging or biking. Or you will be able to connect it with a smartphone and, using GPS, see the directions to a place on the display while you are walking on the road.

Of course, a lot of developers will be needed to bring out interesting applications. But we are not quite sure whether it will be fun to have a display in front of our eyes like this; we will be taking a closer look at this in the very near future to see how it’s like. In the meantime, you can take a peek at the clips below to see what the OE-31 has to offer.

Samsung is expected to come out with a lot of exciting products at MWC 2012. But their newly unveiled Galaxy Beam handset might not impress you when it comes to the specs, although it has one trick up its sleeve. The device features a built-in pico projector.

The new device is an updated version of Samsung’s Galaxy Beam which was shown off at the Mobile World Congress in 2010. And in case you are pondering, Samsung is not the only company which has dived into the idea of a projector in a phone. Have you heard about the LG eXpo projector phone?

The original Galaxy Beam was only slated for Singapore and it came with Android v2.1, a 3.7-inch screen, and a 9 lumens projector. The updated version runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 4-inch 480×800 TFT display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal memory (there’s a microSD slot for cards of up to 32GB), a 5MP rear shooter, a 1.3MP front camera and a 2000mAh battery.

That’s no HTC One X, but those who are buying this device will be looking forward to playing with its 15 lumens projector. Although that is not enough to blind anyone, it is more than enough for projecting pictures, videos, and other media onto flat surfaces. And, according to Samsung, it can display images up to 50-inches wide.

Unfortunately, we haven’t got any hints regarding the price tag and availability of the Beam. We will keep you updated. The Beam is expected to be launched in a number of countries.

And yeah, almost forgot. According to the device’s landing page, the handset has 6GB of RAM. That’s most probably a typo, but maybe not, since it could take some serious memory to power a projector.

Ubuntu for Android appears to be the most important development for Android since the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich. But if you are too excited to know more about it before it is officially launched at the upcoming Mobile World Congress, you can check out the demo video below which comes to us via a kind hearted Canonical employee.

Just in case you missed a few things earlier, Ubuntu for Android brings an ARM-based version of Ubuntu into an Android smartphone. When the Android device is connected to a dock or monitor, you will be able to enjoy the Ubuntu desktop UI. When not docked, the device will be just your usual Android smartphone.

As you will see in the clip below, when the Android phone is docked, the full Ubuntu OS comes alive on the computer screen. Ubuntu gets access to the files, folders, contacts and apps on the phone, and the user always stays connected via the handset allowing access to Android alerts right on the desktop. Take a peek at the video to know more.

But unfortunately, there will be limitations. Ubuntu for Android is expected to arrive only with new phones (hopefully before 2013), that is no support for your current phone. And the devices must have at least a dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and HDMI-out.

But we are excited about checking this out at the MWC. What about you?

The Mobile World Congress is right around the corner, but LG surprisingly has officially announced their Optimus Vu, the company’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Note little ahead of schedule.

The LG Optimus Vu will certainly bring a visual treat to your eyes all thanks to the 5-inch IPS display (1024×768) that features a bright 4:3 aspect ratio. The Vu is thinner (measures in at 8.5 mm) than the Galaxy Note, and the rectangular tablet features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front shooter.

NFC, and is LTE enabled, and 32GB of built-in storage is more than enough for a lot for pictures, videos, and apps. But there’s no indication about an SD or microSD card slot anywhere in the press release. Other features include HDMI and DLNA, and it will come with LG’S “Rubberdium pen” (also known as a “stylus”).

But the disappointment is that the device runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. They have promised an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich within three months of launch. The Galaxy Note has a 2,500mAh battery, which should provide a longer run time than the Vu’s 2,080 mAh battery. That might be an advantage for the Note, since those looking to take advantage of LTE will be sucking alot of juice.

No hints about when the device will arrive in the US. Meanwhile, we will take a closer look at the device at the upcoming MWC.

If you don't want random strangers crowding your precious photographic memories, check out what Swedish photography firm Scalado has come out with. The app called Remove, claims to be the world’s first optical removal software for smartphones. Scalado says the new app will help you remove unwanted moving subjects from your photographs. It works just like you would imagine it to. The Remove app takes burst of shots in succession, you will have to keep the camera still on the person or thing you are taking a photo of. It then recognizes the moving objects in the frame by comparing the different shots, then it will highlight the objects in motion allowing you to select the ones you want to be removed. The final product will be a perfect photo of just your dear loved ones.

If you don’t want random strangers crowding your precious photographic memories, check out what Swedish photography firm Scalado has come out with. The app called Remove, claims to be the world’s first optical removal software for smartphones. Scalado says the new app will help you remove unwanted moving subjects from your photographs. The final product will be a perfect photo of just your dear loved ones.

Just in case you are wondering, the background being blocked by an unwanted person is not lost in the process. The app selects the bit of background from another shot. But the only problem is that the app won’t be highlighting strangers who are standing still. It won’t be an app which can be downloaded, but software coming with smartphones. Hopefully there will be a partnership between Scalado and all the big smartphone manufacturers soon.

Unfortunately, the app is currently a prototype and the final version expected to be shown off at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, later this month.

Rumors about the iPad 3 suggest that Apple has plans to bring out an awesome tablet to stay at the top of the market this year as well. But that does not mean that the task is going to be easy. It appears like Samsung has been secretly designing not one, but two different tablets (maybe even more) and the new slates will likely be unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress later this month.

Two unknown devices, with model numbers GT-P3100 and GT-P5100, from the South Korean manufacturer have got Wi-Fi certifications issued by the WiFi Alliance.

Although these devices are being listed as smartphones, the GT-P prefix suggests that we might be looking at new additions into the company’s tablet line-up. Models beginning with GT-P7 have been part of their Android tablet range. Yes, the prefixes differ slightly, but Samsung might be trying to throw us off the trail here.

We doubt whether one of these devices is the earlier rumored monster tablet from the company which is said to be equipped with a quad-core Exynos processor and a 2560 x 1600 display that measures in at 11.6″. And the other one might end up as their answer to affordable slates like the Kindle Fire.

Whatever these are, we believe that MWC will witness at least one Samsung tablet introduced. We will let you know when any new info arrives prior to that. So stay tuned.

HTC has started sending out invitations for an event which has been scheduled to take place on February 26th. That’s definitely going to be the unveiling ceremony of the latest phones from the company and we are expecting a good treat at the Mobile World Congress 2012 which begins on the 27th.

They haven’t announced which devices are coming, but we are pretty sure about the arrival of a few of these rumored handsets. And we are expecting the company to unveil their first quad-core handset (or handsets) too.

The Tegra 3 HTC Endeavor aka EDGE aka Supreme is expected to show up along with the LTE enabled HTC Ville and the Windows Phone-powered HTC Radiant.

The Endeavor is going to be a pretty good attraction at the MWC if it is coming with the rumored 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.7-inch 720p display and an 8-megapixel shooter with 1080p video capture capability.

Meanwhile, according to a new report, the HTC Primo will also be making its debut at the show. The device is expected to be coming with Android 4.0, a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and a 5 megapixel rear shooter capable of recording 720p video. It also boasts Beats Audio and is just 9mm thick.

Of course, more info on HTC’s plans will be available soon. And we will keep you updated as always.

Samsung had to think big when planning the next in their “S” series line of Android smartphones to keep up with the rich traditions already established by the Galaxy S, S II and the Galaxy Note. It seems that Galaxy S3 will indeed be a monster, powered by a Quad-Core chipset capable of speeds in the range of 1.6 GHz. The picture gets even more enticing with industry expert Eldar Murtazin claiming through Twitter that he has got his hands on an S III and is bowled over by what it offers.

While mortals get to look at S III in a month or so when it gets unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Murtazin is apparently taking the newbie from Samsung through its paces. Of course, you guys will have to wait till you get to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich-run S III, signs suggesting that the smartphone will be launched first in the US, but not before April this year.

Mutazin’s tweet says the S III will have a 12MP camera and not a 16MP one as rumored earlier. It is not clear at the moment whether Samsung would stick with its tendency to stretch the screen (going by the size of Nexus and Note). Most probably the HD interface of the S III will be slightly bigger than S II, but not exactly in the range of Note, which should make it a fun device to have.

One company that has quietly carved out a significant part of the smartphone market share in the last year is Huawei. It’s not exactly a household name, but the Chinese company has been able mostly to sell its cheaper Android smartphones to people who don’t want to spend the premium on higher end devices. Now, it looks like they’re ready to move up the range.

It has been revealed that Huawei will be launching its Diamond Series of Android phones at Mobile World Congress, which takes place next month in Barcelona. This is meant to be a decidedly higher end range, competing directly against top tier devices like the HTC Edge and Galaxy S3.

Huawei already made its intentions clear with the unveiling of the Ascend P1 S at CES earlier this month. That phone boasted a 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor, Ice Cream Sandwich, 8MP rear camera, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal memory, and 6.68mm thin profile. The assumption is that the Diamond Series will transcend those specs and features even further.

While it is unlikely that Huawei will gain the same kind of market share of Samsung or HTC, it is demonstrating that the company isn’t just about selling a bunch of cheap, low-spec’d merchandise.

According to an article in Korean ETnews, that is retold by Phandroid, the Samsung Galaxy S III may sport a 3D-capable screen. There were several wishful renderings of Samsung’s new flagship phone swirling around in the Internet recently, all of them were mildly dismissed by Samsung.

Naturally, a presumed quad-core 1.5 GHz Exynos 4412 application processor for this phone might be a good basis to include 3D visual capabilities for its screen. Real question is, how much traction the idea might gain amongst consumers? Samsung 3D TVs are still looked upon as a niche product, however, maybe a phone with 3D UI capabilities will fare better.

Imagine a carouseling 3D TouchWiz 5.0 UI on such a phone’s home screen, or on apps screen. When the icons and widgets will be rendered really in 3D, it might be actually operated better with hovering swipes than applying the regular touch swipes. That is, if Samsung will embrace Cypress Semiconductor TrueTouch technology for its rumored Super AMOLED Plus HD capacitive screen’s sensor. But just as with those renderings from Russian artists, one of which is shown here, it may never happen.

Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to show at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February-March 2012.
