Nearly every major carrier across the country seems to be picking up some version of Samsung’s hottest new flagship device, and both Sprint and MetroPCS do not appear to be any exceptions. Versions of the new Samsung Galaxy S4 for Sprint and MetroPCS have showed up in the FCC filings.

The SPH-L720 bound for Sprint and the SCH-R970 enroute to MetroPCS both come equipped with the usual slate of compatible radios, including CDMA and EV-DO, as well as 4G LTE. However, there are some differences between the two. The Sprint model gains HSPA 3G for world roaming compatibility, whereas the MetroPCS model expands its LTE to quad-band support. This is presumably meant to support other US carriers like US Cellular.

With the Galaxy S4 launch just around the corner, it’s curious that we would see the MetroPCS and Sprint versions before the versions destined to even heavier hitters like T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. They’re bound to be coming, of course.

4G LTE: It’s fast, it’s reliable, and it’s hitting the world by storm. However, this doesn’t mean anything to a potential new 4G user when competing mobile networks are touting their complicated 4G data plans that stand upon precarious usage policies. Because of this, finding a valuable 4G service has so far not been so easy.

MetroPCS hopes to change this, and have since brought out a range of simpler 4G plans, and what’s more is that the prices are relativity low without any strange usage limits or barriers stopping 4G data usage.

The first of the range offers full unlimited 4G data, texts and calls for just $60 a month, and nothing more. In the mid-range MetroPCS is offering unlimited everything with the first 2.5GB at 4G speeds for just $50, and at only $40, the same is being offered but with a 500MB 4G limit.

This does seem to sound a lot easier to understand than a few deals out there, but would you choose it over your current provider?

In the recent months, MetroPCS has released a couple of very affordable phones for consumers. They’ve done it again today releasing the ZTE Avid 4G.

The phone gives you a huge amount of bang for your buck, cooming it at only $149. As far as power is concerned? The ZTE Avid features a 1.2 GHz dual Core CPU running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

While it only has a 4 inch 800 x 480 display, the rest of its features make up for that, including 4G LTE support. Avid 4G also sports a 5MP rear facing camera and a VGA front facing camera. For a slight monthly fee, you will also have the ability to turn your phone into a mobile hotspot.

This handset is great option for those looking to get a great phone for not a lot of money. You can order it directly from the MetroPCS site or in-store. So if you have some gifts to buy for the holidays or just want to reward yourself, log on or head in and get yours today!

T-Mobile is at it again.

T-Mobile is at it again. It might not have been able to sell itself to AT&T, but that isn’t stopping it from a merger of a different color: it seems that MetroPCS and T-Mobile are coming together. The parent company of T-MObile, Duetsche Telekom, is currently in talks over the matter.

The deal has already been given the blessing by both company’s boards. Being bigger than MetroPCS, you’d think this would be a standard merger. Nope, MetroPCS will be the one taking over T-Mobile USA in this reverse merger deal. Not really that surprising though, considering Duetsche Telekom’s past attempts to get rid of T-Mobile USA.

The deal has been officially confirmed, but keep in mind that things happen. AT&T’s purchase seemed like it was a go but then at last minute it fell through because it couldn’t get government approval. This is a big change and will see MetroPCS raising itself up to become one of the biggest carriers in the states. It’s hard to say how exactly this would affect current customers of either network.

What do you think of the merger? Are you a current T-Mobile customer? If so, does the idea of MetroPCS taking over bother you or not?
