Earlier this month, we heard rumors that Google had selected Asus to be the manufacturer of the upcoming Google Nexus Tablet, but we thought the target price would be the same $199 as the current Kindle Fire. As it turns out, Google could be looking to be even more aggressive with its pricing for the Nexus Tablet, getting it down as low as $149. That significantly undercuts just about everyone else in the market, aside from the really cheap (read: not so good) Android tablets that are already out there.

It’s pretty much a done deal that the Nexus Tablet will be of the seven-inch variety and it could largely similar to the Asus MeMo 370T, but we had previously heard inklings that it would be powered by the new NVIDIA Tegra3 quad-core processor. In order to achieve the $149 target price, though, it’s said that Google will scrap that idea for a much less expensive dual core processor, possibly a Snapdragon unit from Qualcomm. Even so, they’re promising a “tablet of the highest quality,” whatever that means.

For now, it seems that the so-called Nexus Tablet could make its official debut at CTIA Wireless in New Orleans. That takes place from May 8 to May 10, which is less than two months away. Considering that Nexus devices are usually used as launching points for new versions of Android, it’s also possible that Jelly Bean (Android 4.1? Android 5.0?) could make its debut at the same time, though a Jelly Bean reveal at Google IO on June 27-29 could prove to be more likely.
