HTC Soars to Third Place in Smartphone Market Capitalization

It’s not at all like HTC suddenly came out of left field. The Taiwanese company has been making smartphones well before anyone even knew of the HTC name, but Android has really helped to skyrocket this little engine that could to the top. In fact, it just surpassed Nokia in market capitalization.

Verizon Accounts for Over a Quarter of Motorola’s Total Sales

If you take a look at the smartphone lineup over at Verizon Wireless, it’s pretty clear that Motorola is pretty important to them. As it turns out, the reverse is very much true as well. According to Bloomberg, Verizon Wireless accounts for 28 percent of revenue for Motorola Mobility.

Android set to overtake BlackBerry for 2nd place in USA

The newest data is for November 2010 and it shows that RIM’s BlackBerry dropped from 33.9% in June to just 26.1% in November. By comparison, Google Android-based devices rose from 15% to 25.8% over the same time period with no real sign of slowing down. That puts Android within fractions of a percentage point of RIM. For frame of reference, Apple is sitting relatively steady at 28.6%.

Samsung beats HTC for Windows Phone 7 market domination

HTC has a long and favorable history with smartphones. It was the clear leader with Windows Mobile, especially as an OEM for other brands. It also led the way with Android.
