You may have heard that current Windows Phone 7 devices are not be eligible for an upgrade to Windows Phone 8. This probably makes it harder to move current stock, something had to be done. In the case of AT&T, they’ve decided to cut the price of the Windows Phone 7-powered Nokia Lumia 900 down to a mere $50. That’s really cheap, considering the hardware that you’re packing, like the 1.4GHz processor and the 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display.

Of course, that $50 price isn’t for an outright purchase. You will have to sign up for a qualifying contract. That said, at least you’ll be getting upgraded to Windows Phone 7.8, complete with the updated Start screen. Tiles can get resized, for instance, but it is going to bug you this fall when the first batch of Windows Phone 8 devices start hitting shelves.

What do you think? Is the price slash enough to make the Nokia Lumia 900 enticing for folks considering a new smartphone? Or are they still more inclined to get a new Android device or iPhone? Does the pink version persuade or dissuade you?

In order to show off just how sturdy the new Nokia Lumia 900′s screen is, Techcraver decided to take things to the extreme by using the device as a hammer. That’s right, while it certainly isn’t recommended, it turns out that the Lumia 900 has an extra special unadvertised feature- it makes a pretty decent hammer in a pinch. You can even attempt to bang a nail against the screen and the Lumia 900 doesn’t shatter.

Of course, even the Lumia 900 has its breaking point, and you will notice that they didn’t attempt to drive the nails in with much force, nor did they attempt to take the hammer directly to the phone. Can’t blame them, I wouldn’t want to destroy the poor little thing either. Still, it’s clear that Nokia did a pretty good job in creating a solid phone that can take a little bit of abuse and keep on ticking.

New reports are in surrounding the Nokia Ace for AT&T, including confirmation that it is in fact the Lumia 900, which will be sold globally as Nokia’s flagship windows phone.

So what do we know? First off, the phone will feature Windows Phone Mango (not Tango as previously rumored). The device also has 4.3-inch WVGA display, a 1.4GHz Qualcomm CPU, 512MB of RAM, an 8MP camera, and a 1830mAh battery.

Although the device will likely be sold carrier locked, it will contain a 1700MHz band that will work with T-Mobile 3G if a workaround is made to unlock such capability, which is rather likely I’m sure.

The Lumia 900 weighs about 18 more grams than the Lumia 800, due most likely to the bigger screen and LTE radio in the new model.

Expect even more details surrounding the Lumia 900 in the next few days at CES, where rumors also suggest another mid-range Windows Phone, the Lumia 719, will be debuting. Maybe if we are lucky they will even confirm the existence of a possible Nokia Windows 8 tablet while they are at it, one can hope at least.
