It only took a few measly months for Nokia to skyrocket itself as the top manufacturer of Windows Phone devices. While WP7 still lags behind iOS and Android, it’s certainly making some in-roads and that’s continuing with more in-roads into Canada early next month.

The Nokia Lumia 800 has been officially listed on the Telus Mobility website, coming with an official launch date of March 2. The product page is also saying that the Lumia 800 will be offered “only from Telus,” snatching up the exclusive away from Bell and Rogers. Quick highlights include the 3.7-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display, 16GB internal memory, and 8MP Carl Zeiss camera with LED flash.

No word on pricing just yet, but we can see that Telus will have the Lumia 800 in your choice of black, blue, or pink. And yes, it’ll take advantage of that 4G HSPA network too.

We all knew it was coming sooner rather than later, but now Nokia has officially announced that the white Lumia 800 will go on sale sometime later this month. It isn’t clear what regions the phone will come to first, though I would probably put my money on Europe and North America first.

The white Lumia 800 doesn’t change up the hardware at all, still touting the same Lumia 800 specs. This includes a 1.4GHz processor, 3.8” 800×480 AMOLED ClearBlack curved display, an 8MP Carl Zeiss rear camera, 16GB of internal storage, Windows Phone Mango, FM Radio, and a 1450 mAh battery.

There is really something about the clean look that white brings to the 800, and personally, I kind of prefer it to the original black phone. What do you think? Do you have a color preference when it comes to smartphones?

Espoo, Finland – Nokia announced today that the Nokia Lumia 800 will be available in white, beginning later this month.

Image: Nokia Lumia 800 in white With Windows ® Phone 7.5 software on board, the white Nokia Lumia 800 features head-turning design and the best social and Internet performance, with one-touch social network access, easy grouping of contacts, integrated communication threads and Internet Explorer 9. It features a 3.7-inch AMOLED ClearBlack curved display blending seamlessly into the reduced body design, and a 1.4 GHz processor with hardware acceleration and a graphics processor. The Lumia 800 contains an instant-share camera experience based on leading Carl Zeiss optics, HD video playback, 16GB of internal user memory and free SkyDrive storage for storing images and music.

Lumia smartphones include signature Nokia experiences optimized for Windows Phone, including Nokia Drive, which delivers a full-fledged personal navigation device (PND) with free, turn-by-turn navigation and dedicated in-car-user-interface; and Nokia Music introducing MixRadio*, a free mobile music-streaming application that delivers hundreds of channels of locally-relevant music. Windows Marketplace also gives Lumia users more than 55 000 apps to choose from.

“Since we began selling it late last year, the Nokia Lumia 800 has received rave reviews around the world,” said Ilari Nurmi, Vice President of Product Marketing, Nokia. “Now in white, the Lumia 800 brings with it an even more premium look and feel with its gloss finish, but packed with power and performance underneath its sleek body.”

More information about the Nokia Lumia 800 can be found at www.nokia.com/lumia800.

*Availability of Mix Radio varies market by market

AT&T is expanding their LTE wireless network and, as expected, has announced the addition of a number of devices into their LTE handset line-up at CES. The devices that will soon be released onto their high-speed network include five new Android handsets, an Android tablet and two Windows Phone smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Note
First up is the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note (pictured above) smartphone/mini tablet which boasts a 5.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 1280×800, dual-core CPU, the S-pen stylus and it runs Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

The device will be available “in the coming weeks” and we are expecting the device to come with a price tag of $300 or more on contract. In Europe, the non-LTE unlocked version of the device costs around $700. That’s a bit too expensive considering the Android version its running.

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket LTE
The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket LTE appears to be a capable phone with its 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display, and Android Gingerbread. The device also features HPSA+ compatibility which can be utilized when AT&T’s 4G LTE is not available.

It will be available sometime soon and we don’t think that there will be any change to that long model name. You can expect it to cost around $200 on contract.

Samsung Exhilarate
Samsung has taken the eco-conscious path with the Samsung Exhilarate which is made of 80% recycled materials. The device runs Android 2.3 and features a 4-inch AMOLED display. Other specs are not available at the moment which suggests that the device might not be a head turner.

The device will be available “in the coming months”, says AT&T, and we believe that it’ll be rather inexpensive. It might cost around $99 on a contract.

Pantech Element Android Tablet
The LTE-capable 8-inch Pantech Element tablet is now official and it features front and rear facing cameras, 16 GB of storage, Android 3.2 and weighs in at about one pound. The device can also survive under water up to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes.

The device will be launched on January 22 with a price tag of $299.99 with a two-year data contract.

Pantech Burst
And that’s not all from Pantech. The device that you see above is the Pantech Burst handset which will be taking advantage of AT&T’s network from Jan 22. The Android 2.3.5-powered device is coming with a 4-inch screen, 16 GB of memory and dual-core CPU.

Although it does not reach the level of the high end devices on the list, it appears to be a good option for all the budget-conscious customers out there as it will arrive with a price tag of $49.99 with a two-year contract.

Xperia Ion
And Sony is also joining in on the action with their Xperia Ion. Notable specs of the handset include a 4.6-inch HD (1280×720) screen, 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, 720p front-facing camera, 12MP 1080p rear-facing shooter and Android 2.3.

According to the carrier, the handset will be the “first smartphone to be sold under the Sony brand in the US”. And since it’s a PlayStation-certified phone, you should get access to more than a few good games.

The device will hit the carrier in Q2 2012, with a price tag most probably around $200 on contract.

Titan 2
If Android is not the thing for you, you can choose one (or both, if you are rich) of the latest Windows phones that will be available soon on AT&T. The Titan 2, previously known as the Radiant, is the first LTE-capable Windows Phone from HTC.

The handset features a 4.7-inch 480×800 screen, a 16 megapixel camera to attract all the shutterbugs, a 1.5 GHz single-core CPU and Windows Phone Mango 7.5. You can expect a price tag close to $200 on contract.

Nokia Lumia 900
And last but definitely not the least, the Nokia Lumia 900 will be available in the coming months exclusively from the carrier. The high-speed Windows Phone runs Windows Phone Mango 7.5 and boasts a 4.3-inch 800×480 display, 1.4 GHz single-core processor, and front and rear facing cameras.

The device appears to be similar to the Lumia 800 as both the handsets have the same single injectable polyurethane matte plastic build. The difference is that the Lumia 800 has a smaller 3.7-inch screen, and it comes with a slower 3G chip. We are expecting the Lumia 900 to cost around $200 on contract.

So, which phone are you interested in?

New reports are in surrounding the Nokia Ace for AT&T, including confirmation that it is in fact the Lumia 900, which will be sold globally as Nokia’s flagship windows phone.

So what do we know? First off, the phone will feature Windows Phone Mango (not Tango as previously rumored). The device also has 4.3-inch WVGA display, a 1.4GHz Qualcomm CPU, 512MB of RAM, an 8MP camera, and a 1830mAh battery.

Although the device will likely be sold carrier locked, it will contain a 1700MHz band that will work with T-Mobile 3G if a workaround is made to unlock such capability, which is rather likely I’m sure.

The Lumia 900 weighs about 18 more grams than the Lumia 800, due most likely to the bigger screen and LTE radio in the new model.

Expect even more details surrounding the Lumia 900 in the next few days at CES, where rumors also suggest another mid-range Windows Phone, the Lumia 719, will be debuting. Maybe if we are lucky they will even confirm the existence of a possible Nokia Windows 8 tablet while they are at it, one can hope at least.

Good show, old chap. In talking with several friends who aren’t as enthusiastic about tech as I am, I get the impression that most people “haven’t heard anything” from Nokia in years. The relative market share around these parts speaks to that too, so I guess Nokia wants to get the regular folk excited about their brand again. And they want us to know they’re being fresh and new with Microsoft.

So, to help spread the word about Windows Phone 7 (and WP7.5 Mango), Nokia is planning to launch 26 Wi-Fi hotspots spread out around London. These free hotspots will utilize existing telephone boxes, connecting them to 20Mbps DSL lines. That said, speed will be capped at 1Mbps downstream and 500kbps upstream. Naturally, connecting to these WiFi access points will lead you to a promotional splash page like the one shown above.

This is a similar strategy as that employed by Google in airports a couple years ago, building the brand awareness with free WiFi for the random populace. This gives Nokia a way into the heads of consumers to promote the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, since they may not be able to get their attention otherwise. It also helps that they can collect some data about the people who use these hotspots, since that’ll surely be a part of the T&C agreement.

If these are still around when the 2012 London Olympics take place, I imagine they’ll get quite a bit of attention (and data).

The original leaks of the Nokia Sea-Ray are pretty much spot on. At Nokia World earlier today, Stephen Elop and crew officially revealed the Nokia Lumia 800, ushering in the era of Windows Phone 7 devices from the Scandinavian company. This is the first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango device from Nokia, but it’s going to look strangely familiar.

Why? Well, the Nokia Lumia 800 is largely based on the pre-existing Nokia N9, except they’ve plopped Microsoft’s smartphone OS into the package. That’s a good thing, because the N9 is a serious piece of hardware! With the Lumia 800, you get a 3.7-inch AMOLED ClearBlack curved display, a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor, and that amazing 8MP f/2.2 camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash. Rounding out the package are 16GB of internal memory, a free 25GB cloud storage account with Microsoft SkyDrive, and 512MB RAM.

Not surprisingly, Nokia is also loading the Lumia 800 with Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps. It’ll be made available in your choice of blue, magenta or black and it ships this month to France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and UK with Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan following suit before the year is out. A Canadian and American launch is tentatively scheduled for early next year. The European price is set at 420 Euro ($580), excluding taxes and subsidies.

Also announced at the Nokia World event is the cheaper Nokia Lumia 710. It’s also getting the Windows Phone 7 treatment, but it’s shape is more rounded. You still get the 1.4GHz processor and a 3.7-inch WVGA ClearBlack display though, as well as the option to get exchangeable back covers. Other specs include the 5MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and aGPS. The estimated retail price for the Lumia 710 is 270 Euro ($373). Availability should be similar to the Lumia 800.
