For the longest while there, the Logitech Harmony series was the be-all and end-all of ultimate TV remotes. That might be changing, because we’re getting a sneak peek at the Motorola Corvair; a 6-inch tablet-ish device that will presumably control your television in more interesting ways.

This unofficial leak shows off the device itself, which is a 6-inch tablet, as well as a series of specs labeled on the retail box. From there, we can see that it uses Android 2.3 Gingerbread and comes with WiFi, a 4000mAh battery, and IR connectivity. The assumption is that it’ll play nice with Motorola cable boxes.

What’s interesting is that the UI on the TV appears to be mirrored on the tablet. This could mean that the tablet could serve as a “picture in picture” kind of controller too, allowing one program to be shown on the big screen and another program on the smaller screen. Maybe. We’re hearing that the Corvair is being tested with various cable providers at the moment.

Would you buy a dedicated Android remote for your TV and cable box? Or does this simply make more sense if they include it as an “app” on a Xoom tablet or Droid phone of some kind?

It’s hard to differentiate yourself in this increasingly competitive tablet market, but it seems that the fine folks at Neuros have come up with something rather compelling. On the surface, this might look like any other Android-powered tablet device, but the Neuros Control Tablet 1002 comes with an added bonus. You see, Neuros has pre-installed its LINK remote control app on the device, along with a Boxee remote control program and some other HTPC controls. In effect, this handy little tablet can control just about every aspect of your home theatre, not unlike those expensive Logitech Harmony remotes but in a much cooler (and more cost effective) way.

Yes, it’s positively true that they’re biting the physical style of an iPad, but the guts under the hood are very different. You get a 600MHz VIA Mw8505 processor, 7-inch resisitive WVGA touchscreen, Android 1.6, 128MB of RAM, 2GB flash storage, memory card slot, WiFi, 1.3MP webcam, USB 2.0, speakers, microphone, and headphone jack.

It’s a little disconcerting that one of the main product shots appears to be showing Windows XP, but I’m willing to overlook that if the remote control (plus other Android functionality) works as advertised. They’re saying, for example, that you can organize a playlist without having to turn on your HDTV to see the LINK user interface.

The best part? The Neuros Control Tablet 1002 is just $129.99 and it’s available right now.
