The first 3D phone to hit the U.S. will be AT&T’s version of the LG Optimus 3D, dubbed the “Thrill 4G” for American markets. With dual cameras, a dual-core 1GHz processor and a 4.3” glasses-less 3D display, the phone will undoubtedly outshine the Windows Phone 7 HTC HD7S announced for release alongside.

The phone’s dual cameras take 5MP photos and high-def video in both 3D or 2D, meaning buyers will become part of the elite few able to contribute to the 3D section of YouTube. The Thrill 4G will be released with Android Froyo, but will be upgradable to Gingerbread at some point in the future.

With only 8GB of internal memory, users will have to take advantage of the MicroSD port if they want to delve into LG’s “3D Space,” a market of 3D games, video clips and images available on the phone.

Both phones will be released to AT&T stores “in the coming weeks,” says the company.

LG’s marketing is tasteless to say the least. They release a video for the newly announced Optimus Pad, aka G-Slate, with a simulated “Spec Fighter” video game challenging what clearly resembles Apple CEO Steve Jobs and the iPad, not so cleverly renamed to the A-Pad. LG’s unnamed Ninja kicks Jobs in the face at about the 1:00 minute mark of the video.

I’m not an Apple fanboy by any means, but Jobs is not well, and that is publicly known. I’m not saying the guy needs to be babied, but your marketing approach LG, is pitiful. So you beat the specs of a one year old device, you should get the virtual award you so deserve. But when it comes to the real world, you’re still not even close to second best.

Why didn’t you use your own CEO’s face on the one who kicked Steve Jobs shamelessly in the head? Perhaps because you don’t even have a CEO who could stand up to Jobs. You fired your last one because your cellphones are generally regarded as subsidized giveaways (crap), now you expect the next CEO to stand by you? You better keep hiring new CEOs because the next iPad is going to dust your ass again. You may be laughing in your boardroom now, but wait until your next quarterly earnings are released including this tablets sales.

Why announce a single device when you can announce a whole new brand with a complete new lineup of devices? Apparently, that's the strategy that LG is taking with its new Optimus series. The main feature of this line is that they will all be powered by Google Android 2.2 froyo, at least for now. Optimus devices include both high-end and entry-level Android devices, so the latter will likely be left out of future upgrades to Gingerbread.

Why announce a single device when you can announce a whole new brand with a complete new lineup of devices? Apparently, that’s the strategy that LG is taking with its new Optimus series. The main feature of this line is that they will all be powered by Google Android 2.2 froyo, at least for now. Optimus devices include both high-end and entry-level Android devices, so the latter will likely be left out of future upgrades to Gingerbread.

The LG Optimus One has rounder edges and comes with an OMAP3630 processor, 3.8-inch touchscreen, an “HD” camera, and HDMI/DLNA support. The LG Optimus Chic, on the other hand, is more budget-minded in its approach, though they’re not completely forthcoming with the exact specs.

An Android tablet of some kind will also be included among the ten (or so) devices that LG plans to launch under the Optimus banner during the second half of this year. Can LG dethrone HTC and Motorola as the Android leaders? With Optimus, it just might prime.
