We are starting to learn more and more about the upcoming LG Optimus G Pro 5.5-inch smartphone, including the fact it will be one of the first Snapdragon 600-based devices. We also now know that it is in fact coming to North America.

For those that don’t already know, the Snapdragon 600 one of the latest Qaulcomm processors out there. The 600 isn’t as beefy as the upcoming Snapdragon 800, but the 1.7GHz quad-core chip is certainly a bit ahead of the existing S4 Pro.

Other specs for the Pro include a 3000mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear cam, microSDXC and LTE. There is also a front cam on the device for video conferencing and recording.

Outside of the improved hardware, we’ve also learned that new software tweaks will arrive with the Optimus G Pro that include the ability to record from both camera at the same time and the use a VR Panorama mode that it supposed to be similar to Google’s Photo Sphere.

So when is the North American launch for the LG Optimus G Pro coming? The phone is expected to arrive in the North American market sometime in Q2, alongside its release in Japan. Final details (including a more exact launch window) will likely be revealed at MWC.

Last week we reported on the LG Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch smartphone believed to be heading exclusively to South Korea. Now the company has posted an official image of the handset to its Facebook page.

For the moment, no details on a global launch, though considering the growing popularity of massive smartphones it wouldn’t be too surprising to see a global version sometime in the near future. As for the Korean version, it is expected to feature a quad-core processor and full HD display.

No details about the exact release date have been mentioned just yet, and the same goes for official pricing. That said, LG does indicate it will be available sometime this month. Hopefully we’ll know more about the LG Optimus G Pro (and hopefully its global plans) at MWC later this month.

Would you be interested in this phablet version of the Optimus G or are you more interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2? Conversely, do you feel that 5.5-inches is just way to big for a smartphone?

When LG first announced that it would follow the LG Optimus G with the LG Optimus G Pro, many of us assumed that it was going to have a much larger screen in order to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Note series. Now, we're catching a glimpse of another LG Optimus G Pro smartphone, this time with a 5.5-inch screen.

The post 5.5-Inch 1080p LG Optimus G Pro Challenges Galaxy Note 2 in Korea appeared first on Mobile Magazine.

When LG first announced that it would follow the LG Optimus G with the LG Optimus G Pro, many of us assumed that it was going to have a much larger screen in order to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Note series. It did get bigger, bumping from 4.7-inches to 5.0-inches, but that apparently still wasn’t big enough. Now, we’re catching a glimpse of another LG Optimus G Pro smartphone, this time with a 5.5-inch screen.

While the 5-inch LG Optimus G Pro looks like it’s an exclusive to NTT DoCoMo in Japan for the time being, the phablet sized 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro is apparently heading to LG’s home country of South Korea. That 5.5-inch display retains the 1080p resolution of its slightly smaller cousin, along with a 1.7GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm and 2GB of RAM.

To help power the bigger screen, they’re also giving it a bigger battery, a 3140mAh unit to be precise. That’s right around the same size as the Note 2, which makes sense since they have the same sized display (though the Note 2 is only 720p). Rounding out the spec sheet are 32GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for even more space.

This is just a leak at the moment, so we haven’t found anything in terms of pricing and availability just yet, but I’d say it’s pretty safe to assume that some variant of the Optimus G Pro will eventually make it to our shores. We just don’t know if it’s a 5-incher, a 5.5-incher, or something different altogether.

We’ve been hearing rumors about the LG Optimus G2 for a while now, and now we have some specs and a leaked slide to go with the prior claims. Interestingly enough, the device leaked is not called the Optimus G2, instead bearing the name “Optimus G Pro”.

The G Pro has pretty decent specs, though nothing that revolutionary outside of perhaps the 5-inch 1080p display. The phone itself is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space. There is also LTE, a 3,000mAh battery and a 13MP back cam, 2.4MP front cam and Android Jelly Bean.

We even have supposed measurements, which have the phone at 139 x 70 x 10.1mm and weighing in at 160 grams.

Keep in mind that this phone is destined for Japan’s DoCoMo service, and we have no clue if it is actually going to be released to other markets like the United States anytime soon (or even ever). We also don’t know if this is the Optimus G2 or if LG is planning on branching out with multiple Optimus G lines go forward.

What do you think of the Optimus G Pro based on what we (think we) know so far? Interested in seeing it come to your local area or not?
